In the Vietnamese industry Manh Quynh is a phenomenon. He only appeared less than 3 years ago, but this male singer has recorded over 50 CDs, having some of them sell at a very high rate. The unusual thing about Manh Quynh's career was that, in the beginning, even though Manh Quynh hadn't appeared in any videos, his voice was noticed by many people only after his third release. One thing fortunate for Manh Quynh is that his mother always encouraged him to take the road of entertainment.
Manh Quynh's real name is Nguyen Thanh Dung, born in 1972 in Bien Hoa. At the age of 15, he had gone to Saigon to finish secondary school. Manh Quynh's father was a member of the United States' military, he met Manh Quynh's mother and they got married. But during a short period of time after Manh Quynh was born, his father disappeared in the Vietnam War.
Even though he carries American blood in his body, Manh Quynh vaguely bears a resemblance of a mixed blood person. After settling in Saigon, beside going to the Tran Khai Nguyen school, one surprising thing that Manh Quynh did was start to study opera with a very famous opera singer named Ngoc An, who lived close to him.
In September of 1992, Manh Quynh and his mother left on a journey to America. In almost 2 years of living in New York, Manh Quynh worked at an electronic shop and studied English in the evening. In the United States, Manh Quynh had only one close person, his mother, and they had to take care of one another, therefore, Manh Quynh had to temporarily stop attending school. In the end, Man Quynh and his mother decided to move to Minnesota and live in Burnsville till today. In Minnesota, Manh Quynh studied "dien toan" at the same time, he studied composing, took voice lessons, and learned how to play the guitar at his house, which was taught to him by an American instructor. Just about one year later, after many times of singing at weddings, Manh Quynh was encouraged by friends to go after a singing career, he then recorded a number of songs and sent them to Nguoi Dep Binh Duong Productions. The president of this company invited Manh Quynh to sign a contract with them. Right after signing a contract he officially stepped into the music business.
Since 1997, Manh Quynh began to get invitations to appear in music videos by Tinh Productions. After participating in the first few videos, Manh Quynh received many invitations to perform everywhere that Vietnamese people lived. Most of Manh Quynh's fans are female, based on the presents and letters received by Manh Quynh. This is also why many of Manh Quynh's relationships last no longer than two months. Right now, Manh Quynh says that he only has a best friend, Phi Nhung, who is a beloved female singer and is very popular with the audience through performing types of music like Manh Quynh. Both Manh Quynh and Phi Nhung usually perform around the same places and they seem to sound very good together when performing duets.
