Chapter 3 Cassidy was still lying on the bed crying when she heard a knock at the door.  Assuming it was Jeff, she ignored it.  The knock grew louder and she heard Matt’s voice, "Cass?  I know you’re in there.  Open up." She sighed.  She didn’t want to open the door and face anyone, but she knew how stubborn Matt was and that it was better to get this over with now.  She wiped the tears from her face and slowly opened the door, "I told you he wasn’t here." "I know.  I came to check on you.  You sounded really upset on the phone.", Matt said as he looked at her with pity. "Matt, I’m fine.  I’ll have him call you if I talk to him.", Cassidy said as she started to shut the door.  But Matt stuck his foot in the way and made his way inside, "Cass, you’re not fine.  You’ve been crying.  What’s going on?" She thought about how different the two brother’s were, like night and day.  "I can’t get him to talk to me and I can’t get you to leave me alone!", she yelled at Matt. Matt took a step back, he couldn’t remember ever seeing her that upset.  She sat down at the end of the couch and put her head in her hands.   Matt hesitated before sitting down beside her.  "Cass?", he said as he gently put his hand on her shoulder.  As soon as she felt the gentleness of his touch, she began to sob uncontrollably. "Cass.", he whispered as he put his arm around her, "I’m sure what ever it is, you two will work it out." The heaving of her chest slowed as she looked up at him, tears streaming down her face, "I don’t think we will this time." "You want to tell me about it?", he asked feeling like crying himself as he saw the hurt in her eyes. "I can’t talk about it right now.", she said.  "I understand. But just know that when and if you need to talk about it, I’ll listen.", Matt said.  "I know.", she said forcing a smile through her pain.  He smiled back at her and wiped the tears from her face.  He stood up to leave and made it almost to the door when she stopped him, "Matt?"  He turned to face her, "Yeah?"  "Thank you.", she said as she walked over and hugged him. "Anytime.", he said as he hugged her back. It was at that moment that the front door opened. "What’s going on here.", Jeff hissed at the sight of his girlfriend in his brother’s arms.  Cassidy and Matt quickly pulled away from each other.  "Nothing.", Matt said.  "Doesn’t look like nothing.", Jeff said glaring angrily at Cassidy. "Get over it Jeff!  Somebody had to show her they cared.", Matt said as he brushed passed his brother and out the front door. "What was that all about?", Jeff asked a little more calmly as he shut the door behind Matt. "He just came by to check on me.", Cassidy stated.   "Does he know?  Did you tell him?", Jeff asked.   "No, Jeff.  He called for you, and I guess he could tell something was wrong, so he came over.  End of story.", Cassidy said as she walked away from him and into the bedroom.  She sat down on the bed lost in thought. "So….what are we going to do about this little situation?", Jeff asked from the doorway.  The nerve of his question flew all over her, "I don’t know what YOU are gonna do, but I’m gonna have a baby." "You’re keeping it?", Jeff asked with astonishment.   "Of course I am.  What?  You want me to have an abortion?", Cassidy snapped in disgust.  He sat down beside her, "I’m not ready for this.  I’m not ready to be someone’s father." "Well I guess you should have thought about that before now, huh?", she snapped.  "You’re actually gonna have this baby?  And raise it?", Jeff asked. "Yes.", she answered, "And if you don’t want to be a part of this, there’s the door." She watched in amazement as he turned to walk out, "I’ll send for my things later."  And with that he was gone.   Her heart sank and she was finding it hard to breathe.  Never in a million years did she think he would walk out on her, not now, not ever.  This was almost more than she could stand.             Last Chapter ..*..
