Chapter 2 Jeff felt as if the wind had been knocked out of him.  He could hardly believe the words that came out of Cassidy’s mouth.  He then walked back onto the porch and tried to open the door to go inside, but it was locked.  He knocked on the door, "Cass!  Let me in!" She didn’t respond so he knocked harder and began banging on the door, "Cassidy!!  LET ME IN!!!" "NO!!!", she finally yelled back as she leaned against the inside of the door, sobbing.   "Come on Cass!  We need to talk about this!", he yelled. Cassidy became even more angry, "Oh, NOW you WANT to talk.  Well…..we’ll talk LATER!!"  She stormed away from the door and into her bedroom throwing herself down onto her bed as she cried. Jeff gave up and got into his car, headed for Shannon’s house.  When he got there, Shannon met him on the porch ready to go fishing.  Jeff popped his trunk and Shannon loaded his gear.  "What’s up man?", Shannon asked as he sat down in the passenger seat.  Jeff didn’t pay attention as he put the car in reverse and pulled out onto the street. "Dude.  Are you awake?", Shannon asked his friend. "Huh?  Oh yeah.", Jeff returned. They reached the lake and found the right spot on the bank.  They unloaded their gear and began to fish.  Shannon noticed that Jeff was unusually despondent, "It’s easier to catch fish if you put bait on there." "Huh?", Jeff asked. "What’s wrong with you man?", Shannon asked.   Jeff shook his head, "Cassidy laid some big news on me this morning."  "What?", Shannon asked.  "She’s pregnant.", Jeff revealed with a sigh.  "Wow", Shannon said in amazement, "What is she gonna do?"   "I don’t know.  She won’t talk to me about it.", Jeff stated.   "Why not?", Shannon asked. "She’s been trying to talk to me for a day or so and I just kept telling her that we’d talk later.  So now she’s mad.", Jeff said. Shannon didn’t say anything and the two went on with their fishing. Rinnnnnnggg…….riiiiinnnnnggg……Cassidy didn’t want to answer it.  "Hey. This is Cassidy.  Leave me a message and I’ll call you back. Beeeeeeep.", she heard the answering machine say.  "Hey Cass.  It’s Matt.  I was just trying to reach Jeff.  I guess you guys are still asleep, so have him call me.", Matt said.  But before he could hang up, Cassidy picked up the phone, "He’s not here, Matt."  "Oh.  Hey Cass.", Matt said shocked that someone had answered. "Hey.", she simply answered.  "What’s wrong?", he asked as he could hear the tears in her weak voice.  "Umm.  Jeff’s gone fishing with Shannon and I don’t know when he’ll be back.", Cassidy told him ignoring his question.  "Cass, are you okay?", Matt asked. "I’m fine.", she said as she tried to hold back her tears, "I’ll have him call you.  Bye."  And with that she hung up.  Matt assumed that she was upset because he was with Shannon again, but he could tell that there was something else going on with her.  After a few minutes of debating with himself, he decided to go over to Cassidy’s and check on her.            Last Chapter ..*..
