Well, it's been a hectic few weeks since I returned from Miami. I went to Sea Isle, NJ for a week with my family, and Gerry flew up to join us. That same week we got some bad news about Gerry's start date for NIMA. It looks like we'll be postponing the move to DC for a while, but no worries! I'm moving to Miami to be with Gerry and start saving money at the beginning of September. It's scary to be moving out of my parent's house for good, but being in Miami is going to be the best way for me to accomplish my short-term goals and help Gerry accomplish his long-term ones. Doin' what I gotta do.

Just a quick summertime update from the beautiful city of Miami! I've been spending some quality time with my fiancé and his family. I arrived June 19th, and I still have a week and a half left of fun in the tropical sun down here. Miami is such a great town. This weekend we're going to Key West to a cute little B&B, just Gerry and I. We watched Wimbledon this morning (I was rooting for Rafter, boo.) and I'm hanging out at his office this afternoon.
My sister Renée and his sister Lucy both graduated from high school 3 weeks ago. It's so weird to see them getting ready to go off to college. I feel like I was just there not long ago. When I come home from Miami on the 21st, I'll have about a month left to hang with Renée before she becomes a college girl. *Sniffle*
I'm adding some new stuff to the wedding page, a few little updates here and there. We're working on choosing a band for the reception and picking out invitations. Fun!

Has it really been almost a month since my last update already? Time flies when you're zooming past major life milestones, I guess. I'm now officially a college graduate, an alumna of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It's been a strange transition for me, I'm home living with my parents for the summer while I sort out my future plans and living arrangements. It's strange knowing that I won't be heading back to NC in the fall! But there are so many things to look forward to instead... choosing Gerry's and my first apartment, moving to DC, applying to graduate programs, more wedding planning... I'm trying to reassure myself that this is the beginning of my real world adventures, rather than the end of 4 wonderful years of friendship, fun, and academic success in college. It's hard to let go of such a great time in my life, but I just keep looking ahead and hoping for even more successes and joys in the future.

As of yesterday morning at 10am... I'm finished college! I still have about a week and a half left before graduation, but my academic work is done. My exams went well; I only had two and I'm pretty sure I aced both of them. My poetry collection received an A-! I found out today, and I was completely taken by surprise! I bought my cap and gown today too, which was a bittersweet experience. It's going to be so strange to not identify myself as a college student anymore. I need to get into grad school ASAP so I'll feel like I'm in my element again.
Last night Gerry and I went out to celebrate at Top of the Hill with some of our buddies, and we had a great time toasting to our bright futures. If only I had a clue what my future holds, career-wise. I suppose I have all summer to figure that out, huh? Hmm.
Check out the new "About me" page that I'm working on. That's where to find all the answers to questions you'd never think of asking!

I can't believe that my college career is almost at an end. I've been freaking out lately because my poetry portfolio is sadly lacking about 90 lines and it's due Thursday. I'm worried that everything I write from now on will be focused on quantity rather than quality. This makes me unhappy.
Wedding plans are moving right along! We just chose our photographer last night and we feel really good about that. Hopefully the cake and the bridesmaid's dresses will be the next items checked off on my long, long list of crap to do.
I passed my swim test! And passed my thesis defense... I was awarded honors in the field of English. It feels so good to finally be finished. *sigh* It still makes me a little sad because it means there is less and less standing between me and the scary post-graduation world.

Only about six weeks left until graduation, so I'm enjoying this lovely Carolina springtime...my last one as a student (sniffle). Wedding plans are in full swing; this week I'm interviewing photographers - next week, DJs. On the 19th I defend my senior honors thesis, and then all I have to do is write 3 papers and 170 lines of poetry, take the swim test, and pass 2 final exams and I will be a distinguished alumna of UNC at Chapel Hill.
Coolest thing I did recently: took the Strong Interest Inventory test at Careers By Design and learned that I would make a kickass Librarian, College Administrator, English Teacher, Lawyer, or Technical Writer. In that order. Hm...

I can't believe it's been so long since I updated... many apologies! In the last few weeks I have frantically completed the rough and final drafts of my senior honors thesis, initiated the Pi pledge class of Mu Beta Psi, Mu Chapter, searched unsuccessfully for a post-grad job opportunity, travelled home to visit my family for Spring Break, and bought a wedding dress! Whew. Next stop: Graduation!
Check out the updated wedding page.

Did everybody have a lovely Valentine's Day? I sure did. G and I had a romantic dinner at Pepper's. Aww, yeah. He's the greatest, it's no lie. Update on the wedding plans: the date is almost certainly going to be set for March 23 now that we're about ready to book the Carolina Inn for our reception and Orange United Methodist for the ceremony. Not official yet, but getting there. Eventually I'll get around to updating the wedding page so you can vote on bridesmaid's dresses as well as wedding gowns. It's the People's Choice Wedding guys, rock the vote.
In other news, my honors thesis is a piece of crap and I'm tired of writing it (or pretending that I'm attempting to do so) and I'm officially 4 poems behind in my advanced poetry writing class. It's amazing the stuff that becomes interesting when you have a thesis to write. I suddenly feel motivated to clean my room, vaccuum, fold every piece of clothing that I own, read two season's worth of Dawson's Creek recaps at Mighty Big TV, or reorganize all my notes from Sex & Gender in Antiquity. Now that you've lost all respect for me, I'll shush. Have a fabulous night.

I'm working on adding a guestbook and counter to the site, just for that old-fashioned homepagey feel.
I'm also going to add a page detailing the plans for my upcoming wedding to Gerry Watkins. All the important decisions will be here made here, with YOUR feedback once I get it up and running.

So this is my site. It still has that "new site" smell, huh? Well, I had another personal site that I built as a junior in college while teaching myself HTML. Now that I'm graduating (from UNC Chapel Hill) in a few months from now, I wanted to make a more complex, more frequently updated version of my page. Heh. I know, good luck.
If, for some reason, you are looking for a copy editor in the Washington, DC area starting in mid-June, hire me.
If you're wondering about the name of my site, I'm afraid I don't have a non-pretentious answer for you. It's from one of my favorite Robert Frost poems, and has always fit me well as a night owl and perpetual procrastinator. I'm usually up late doing:
a) something unimportant
or
b) something important that's due the next morning.
More of those annoying "about me" factoids will be forthcoming. Be afraid!
For now, go here and worship at the shrine of one of the all-time greatest bands. I got tickets to the June 12th show in Philly! Aw yeah!
