By now everyone has seen the Gamecube demo, right? Anyways, the scene of Link fighting Ganondorf was certainly impressive. But it worries me. What is Ganondorf doing in the game? In case you didn't notice, he turned into Ganon. Sure, he was shown as Ganondorf at the end, but it becomes pretty clear that his main form is Ganon. And yes, I know it's just a demo, but they went through a lot of time to create him; I doubt they would get rid of him so quickly. Not only that, but can't Nintendo find another character besides Ganon? Zelda, by continuing with Ganon, is becoming dangerously like Mario. The storyline, which is one of the main things that draws me into Zelda, is starting to sound rather circular- Ganon steals Triforce, captures princess, Link stops him. Gets kind of dull after a while, doesn't it? And for those out there who do think there's a storyline that can work will find that repeating Ganon is difficult to explain. We have his definite start (OoT) and his definite end (LoZ). LttP can be explained, but it borders on the unreal. And don't say that we can revive Ganon with that ashes bit in AoL. Link has the etire Triforce at that point. What's to stop him from getting rid of Ganon's ashes? No, he is dead and should stay dead. And it's not as if he's an integral part to the game. Look at LttP. The main bad guy was Agahnim for the first half of the game. And the game did not suffer because of it. In fact, if we look at the games, we see that Agahnim is the only bad guy with any depth of character besides Ganon. Even in the games without Ganon, Ganon was present. You had to stay alive in AoL to insure Ganon did not return, and Ganon was one of the nightmares in LA. Fortunately, Majora's Mask looks like it will break this pattern. And I have heard two different versions of the plot for GBC Zelda- one involving Ganon and one not. Hopefully, they will choose the other one. But it looks like I'm out of luck with Gamecube. Then there is only one thing I can hope for- a battle to end all battles. Nintendo had better make the final battle as impressive and long and hard and awe-inspiring as possible. Only then will players realize that a fight with Ganon has reached its potential. A battle to end all battles, one might say. Then, hopefully, Nintendo will leave Ganon to rest, or at least let him take a break. There is plenty of room in Hyrule for more baddies. |
