Like ZHQ, one of the first impressions I have on this site is original art. They
drew their own pictures. If there is one thing that separates the old from new,
this is it. That’s a good thing in my opinion. Sure, it may not be official and
not perfect, but it’s a little variety. At least this is good art that they
used. Anyways, once you get passed the splash page, the shocker appears. The
last update, September 23, is a goodbye letter. Another great site that has
died. It actually started its death on August 8, when the original webmaster
left. But enough mourning. The death is crippling, but let us look at what’s
left of this site. This is a framed site. Not a bad one actually. It looks nice. But it doesn’t work perfectly. For some reason, the frames cannot scroll, so your browser must be large enough to accompany it. No big problem, but annoying nonetheless. The design is rather nice. Simple, not too flashy, neat graphics, and still maintaining a Zelda feel. The layout is nice and easy to understand. It’s not too difficult to find anything in here. Sure, the use of Kokiri Village as a link is kind of cryptic, but we can’t complain. And the what’s hot thing on the front is helpful and good looking. But, as I said before, the site looks like Zelda. The color patterns, the background, the wooden borders, it all has a Zelda feel to it. It’s hard to explain, but it works. Now that I’m done praising the layout, let us move on to content. First of all, their game help is merely average. And although they mention Gaiden and GBC Zelda, they are obviously out of date. So this is not the greatest site to go to for help. Nor is it a site to go to for rumors, glitches, and so forth. So what do they have? Well, they have the Online Zelda Encyclopedia. Sure, you can find it on HTLOZ now, but it was The Grand Adventures that started it. Hear a reference to a character you never heard before? Come here and find out. They also have a lot of songs you can play on your ocarina (or the other MM instruments), which is always fun. A fair amount of fan fictions (59, I believe), and some fan art. Unfortunately, many of their fan fics are incomplete and out of date. There is also a “Say what?” humor area, much like any other caption game. Not bad I think. So there’s a fair amount of stuff here. Obviously, the news is out of date and the game info is average, but their other stuff makes up for it. Overall, this site is very good. I was very depressed to hear of its passing. I believe this was the first Zelda site I went to, and has left a mark on me. Sure, other sites were better, but this one had an excellent feel to it. Original, creative, and pleasing, this site deserves more than it gets. Unfortunately, it’s time is over as well. No one can bring the site back to its glory days. Yachiyo, their artist, is gone, and so will no more great art will appear. I suggest you look around this site if you hadn’t already. It’s worth coming back to every now and then. The Good: Creative, and excellent layout. The Bad: Not updated anymore Overall: 78% |
