ALANG

This a fort is also called the 'fort of traverses' and has great natural strength. Three-fourths of the fort has to be traversed at least 3 times at different levels to reach the top. There are a series of water cisterns in a semi-circular pattern and a temple here.

Getting here:-

Reach IGATPURI Railway station.
Catch a bus to BHAVLI. Climb to the left to KULANGWADI (6 Kms) proceed on a cart track almost to AMBEWADI. Turn south to climb to the col between ALANG and MADANGAD.
Descent on the east (left) over rocky slabs to the forest. A flat traverse enables one to reach almost the end of the massif. A series of dry water ponds and a giant cracked rock is a marker to turn into a nala for the final climb from the plateau.
A narrow track up the nala leads to a small gully. An easy rock climb supported by a wooden tree and one enters the second level of the fort. Another long flat and sometimes exposed traverse to the extreme end  towards MADANGAD. A huge cave is situated here. Another long traverse gradually climbs to the top. The summit is shaped with two small domes. Water cisterns and a small temple are situated at the base of the summit hump.
To return, descent to the lower thick forest and proceed back to IGATPURI.
