Forever Living

Chapter 2

Peeking around the side of one of Orlando’s most elite hotels, I checked to see if there was anyone near the large fountain in the center courtyard. It appeared empty and it was then that I took my chance running as fast as I could straight for the beautiful fountain.

I jumped in laughing like a child in a mud puddle as I danced and splashed through the water. Dancing through the cascade that rained down on me, I kicked water left and right. It was dangerous and wrong and to the world I must have looked like a fool. In my eyes though I danced the most beautiful dance, laughed my most precious laugh. I was doing something that the world had always told me that I shouldn’t do, something that was frowned upon. But why? What was wrong with playing in a fountain, I’ve never known. It’s wonderful and free and it makes you feel like the child you long to be again and again.

Standing up on the edge to jump in again, I lost my footing suddenly and began to fall backwards. Right into someone’s arms as he lifted me up when I began my descent.

I looked up into the most amazing blue eyes I have ever seen. They were magical, like a border to two words. The threshold to childhood and adulthood looked down at me in concern and I found myself smiling like an idiot.

“My hero,” I said, kissing his cheek. Then I suddenly wondered if he was security.

“Are you trying to get yourself arrested or just killed?” he asked, still holding me.

“Neither, unless you have some handcuffs on you,” I teased, still grinning.

He turned an interesting shade of red then that only made me laugh and kiss him sweetly on the lips.

“Are you crazy?” he asked.

“Yes, about life. Now unless you like getting soaked you might want to put me down,” I suggested, looking at his wet shirt where my body pressed against his.

He placed my feet back on solid ground but still held my shoulders to steady me.

“Are you sure you are all right?” he asked.

“Never better. Sorry about your clothes,” I said, brushing a damp hand down his chest.

“Don’t think that helped,” he teased, flashing a beautiful smile.

“But it didn’t hurt and that’s what important,” I answered, climbing back up on the edge of the fountain.

“What are you doing?” he demanded, reaching out for me but I sidestepped his hands.

“Having fun,” I screamed, jumping in and splashing water all over him.

“You’re going to get arrested if you don’t get out,” he warned.

“Stop being such a wuss and get in. I promise you will love it,” I said, smiling and splashing him and soaking his golden blonde hair.

“Do I look like I want to be arrested?” he asked, staring at me.

“You look like you need to live. Come on! I know you want to. Everyone wants to at least once. Take a chance and just do it. Can’t hurt that you are already wet,” I added.

He stood there for a moment, watching me. Then after glancing around to see if anyone was nearby, a mischievous grin appeared and he jumped in.

“What’s your name, sunshine?” I asked, kicking water at him as we laughed.

“Nick. Nick Carter,” he answered, splashing me back.

“Nice to meet you, Nick. I’m Riley O’Brien.”
