He was getting married. Well, I could see why the leagues of fans would be a little upset. Millions of females around the world wanted to be the woman to change her last name to Littrell for him. But come on! We were talking about the member of a boyband. Most of those fans weren’t old enough to drive, right?
“I know what you are thinking,” he said, suddenly.
“What’s that?”
“How serious could a threat be from a teenybopper since I’m only a member of some boyband,” he answered.
I looked away a moment then looked back at him. “I didn’t mean to offend you. It’s just a little hard to believe.”
“How much do you know about the Backstreet Boys?” he asked.
“Not much,” I admitted, shrugging as we entered the building. “I’m not much of a music fan. Not enough time really. I’m always working, on the road, protecting somebody.”
“Then what do you do?” he asked.
“I work. It’s all I have time for. Everybody needs somebody to protect them I suppose.”
“Sounds like loads of fun,” he answered, wrinkling his nose up in distaste.
He was so cute that I had to laugh. That caused him to grin and something inside of me melted. He looked beautiful. Like a big kid trapped in a man’s body.
“What’s so funny?” he asked.
“You are. You’re like this man and this child in one body. One minute you are talking about threats and marriage and the next you are mocking me and wrinkling your nose like a kid who just found out he has to wear a suit instead of his favorite shirt,” I answered, smiling at him.
“That would be me. I am a paradox of endless possibilities. Gotta love me,” he added, grinning again as we stepped off the elevator.
“I’m sure your fiancée is crazy about you. Where is she by the way? Does she have a bodyguard of her own?” I asked.
“Leighanne? Yeah she’s got a bodyguard of her own, but so far she’s been fine. We got a couple of bomb threats, one at the Kentucky derby,” he admitted, looking once again like an adult. A tired, worried adult I noted.
“So you’re a big star who’s fans aren’t too happy you’re about to tie the knot and the people upstairs want me to make sure nothing happens you,” I summarized as we walked into the office.
“Exactly,” Kevin Richardson answered for his cousin.
“I see you two have met,” Nathan Theadore said, standing to greet us.
“Yes, you could say that,” Brian answered, flashing me that grin of his again.
“Actually it was more like Brian met the pavement,” I teased, smiling back at him.
