I’ve known a lot of people in my life, worked with many, protected hundreds, and even cared about a few. I think I’m pretty good with judging people. I know the ones I’ll never trust and I know the ones I trust through life. It’s in their eyes, in the way they talk to you, the way the listen to you, even the way they hold themselves around you.
Brian Littrell was one of those people I would always trust. He had absolute faith in me, an indescribable trust that had no real bases but was never ending. He was fighting for me.
“All right, Brian. All right, we’ll keep her. We are going to have to do some major media control though. I can’t believe you’re a woman,” Nathan mumbled.
“Never seen one before?” I shot back with a grin.
“So Ryder,” Kevin cut Nathan off before he could response. “What made you decide to become a bodyguard?”
“My father was in the business along with my brother and both my uncles. I just sort of fell into it and found it was perfect for me,” I answered, smiling at tall dark and handsome.
“Any sisters?” Nick asked.
“I know what your thinking, kid,” I laughed, grinning at the handsome blonde. “I’ve got two, both younger and both single.”
“Why don’t we continue this at lunch? What do you say, Ryder? Lunch with the five sexiest men in music?” the one known as A.J. McLean offered.
“I would love to, but I will settle for the five of you instead,” I teased. Lesson number one: never get star struck or let the star think they are better than you. Plus it never hurts to tease the ones you work with, establish a friendship.
“Ouch. She cut you down, Bone,” Brian added, laughing.
“I do believe she was referring to all five of us, B-Rok,” A.J. shot back, a tiny grin on his face.
“All right boys, enough arguing. Feed me or I’ll leave,” I warned, smiling.
“You heard the woman. Let’s go,” Howie said as the six of us moved toward the door.”
“What about the contracts?” Nathan called out.
“I’ll sign them after lunch. I’m not taking this job till I know I can deal with this guy 24/7,” I answered, closing the door firmly.
“You don’t know if you can handle me?” Brian asked as we walked down the hall.
“Nah, that was just an excuse,” I answered.
“For what?”
“I like to get to know my clients before I promise to risk my life for them. Besides, I’m hungry and those things take forever to sign,” I added, laughing as we stepped on the elevator.
“So did you really kick, Brian?” Nick asked.
“Caught him right in the stomach. My guess is he will probably have a bruise before the day ends. Sorry about that,” I added, looking at Brian.
“No problem. I’ve learned my lesson about grabbing women alone in a parking lot,” he answered, grinning again. I swear something in me flip flopped at the sight of that grin but I had no clue what or why. He just had this effect on me.
