About the Author
Mari Ulmer
Mari began telling stories at 5-years-old. The neighborhood children gathered at the family's home and Mari's mother commanded she keep them from fighting. Too small to do so physically, she told them stories. She continued to tell stories on the CBS-TV affiliate as the daily Storylady, later writing down her Little Green Dragon "told" stories, now republished by Unity.

After attending Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts as a National Scholar, Mari graduated from the UMKC School of Law "With Distinction".

Mari's two children grew up in New Mexico where she first moved in the 60s, then Taos in the 70s. Like her heroine, Christina Garcia y Grant, Mari left the practice of law to write full-time, running a B&B with her husband, Jim, to help support the writing. And, like Christy, has been a Mayordoma, taken communion to the shut-ins, cared for the Talpa capilla, made the marches and celebrated the festivals with the people.

A beloved member of the community, Jim died in October, 1998, but Mari has continued to follow her passion of trying to help others understand and preserve the old ways of
la gente in the face of the new. She dedicates her books: With all the love in my heart to the people of Talpa, Ranchos, Llano, and Taos. Toda la gente.
