News from 8/1/01.

Weezer are in the second week of recording their new album. Apparently record Executives weren't overly happy with the songs they heard when they popped into the studios last week, but the band are said to be determined to carry on geting the sound they want rather than what Geffen want.
Anyway here's the tracks they're hoping to lay down, some will be on the album the others will probably make b-sides.
Gimmie some love, homely, island in the sun, starlight, o girlfriend, my best friends are gone, crab, if you want it, inside a smile, knock-down drag-out, don't let go, cryin' and lonely, break up, hash pipe, o lisa, teenage victory song, sugar booger, no more disappointments and always.
No release date has been set yet, but after the recordings finished the band play 20 dates in the US. Support comes from the Get up kids and ozma. The 2 support acts were chosen by visitors to Weezers web-site.

The much talked about Weezer Tribute Album  Entited "Rock music" hopefully will be out late February it'll be released on Dead Droid
Records. Here's the unconfirmed tracklisting so far:
         1. Juliana Theory - In the garage
         2. A New Found Glory - Why bother
         3. Affinity - My Name is Jonas
         4. Glasseater - Holiday
         5. Destro - Susanna
         6. Mycomplex - Tired of sex
         7. Piebald - No one else
         8. Hot Water Music - ?
         9. Grade - only in dreams
         10. Midtown - ?
         11. Reggie And The Full Effect - Pink Triangle
         12. Further Seems Forever - Say it ain't so
         13. The Casket Lottery - Across the Sea
         14. Dashboard confessional - jamie

Can't wait to hear the Reggie and Full effect track, a couple of bands, Midtown and Hot Water Music haven't recorded their tracks yet, so I don't whether the release will get put back. Talking about Hot Water Music, the punk band have just signed to Epitaph, so hopefully they should now get some more exposure.

News from 22/12/00.

The Rumours have been officially confirmed and Moon Ska records is to close. Bucket has decided just to concentrate on playing with the Toasters.  The US label that started out in 1983 has put out material by most of the top ska bands - The Slackers, Bad Manners, Ednas Goldfish, Skoidats, Pietasters and many more. Bucket Explains on the Moon web-site : .. as popularity waxed, so also has it waned, and with an a tide of a proportion that none could have foreseen. The spotlight, for whatever reason we might speculate, has moved on. Fans and even bands have surged off to the next   trend of the week. Regrettably insufficient support now remains to preserve the status quo. Against this backdrop I have decided to close the doors at Moon Records and concentrate on my own band, The Toasters..

From Punkbands.com -The Get Up Kids have officially announced that they will be doing 20 dates in the US with Weezer in February and March. The tour will be sponsored by Yahoo. The band will also be rocking out opening up for Green Day in January for two weeks. As for Get Up Kids related info, Reggie and the Full Effect will be re-releasing material on Second Nature Records. All the old Reggie cassettes that got circulated when the band started are now going to be re-released on Second Nature and will be called "Cassette Only" and might actually only come out on cassette to be true to the original. Get Up Kids frontman, Matt Pryor, has been playing some solo acoustic shows as The New Amsterdams and plans to do a brief stint on the east coast in February playing all acoustic sets with Hot Rod Circuit and Dashboard Confessional. The Get Up Kids are also now getting into the swing of writing songs for their new album which should be out next fall on Vagrant Records.

Link 80 : Adam P has been kicked out of the ska/punk group. According to Trumpet player Aaron the band were unable to carrying on working with him. Bass Player Adam P was one of the few original member left in the band, but Aaron and the rest of the crew have vowed to carry on under the Link 80 banner and have been writing songs for a new album since their return from Japan.

First Grade Crush are well on their way to saving enough money to record a new album.

The new songs are as follows:  Esther, Sleepyhead, This Mess,  PIAB,  Leave Strong,  Whitetailed,  Group Therapy,  Born Into Sweats

Top moon ska act Edna's Goldfish have broken up the band said in a statement "sometimes its easier to just let things come to an end while you're on top then  to go down struggling.   Everyone is really happy with what we accomplished and what we've done over the past three years.  However we do feel that we are in a position to do so much more now.  We'd all like to try something new with our lives.

Hellcat Records has a string of new releases out now and in the near future. Following on from Tiger Army's self titled album is the US punk band the distillers. Sounding like Hole playing Rancid tunes their self titled album is a cool release. Out soon are Rancid new album entitled "Rancid". Not to be confused with their debut album on Epitaph which is not titled. Hepcat's new album "Push and shove" both of which should be featured in the next Ska-face as they're both released late July.

Out now is the new live album from the Slackers, the NYC crew knocked out some Rocksteady classics in a cafe in Holland, luckily the tape was rolling and caught it all for you on CD. 15 tracks - Sooner or later, married girl, do you know, Sarah, Mush one, I still love you, Soldier, Keep him away, Work song, feed my girl, face in the crowd, you don't know I, Pedophilia, runaway and The fried chicken song are the tracks on the release. The album goes some way to showing fans who haven't seen the band live what their missing as well as the charisma of Marq  Lyn and leadership of Vic Ruggerio.
Two more releases out on Hellcat are Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros (who earlier in the year toured with the Pietasters) album "The x ray style" and Dropkick Murphy's "Early years" album. Both are probably fairly hard to get hold of in the UK as they've both been released in Europe on different labels. The DKM's album was released with different tracks on Sidekick records.
Coming soon from Hellcat are albums from the Slackers and London punk act Mouthwash, who featured on "Give em the boot 2".

Leftover Crack, featuring ex-Choking Victim frontman The Stza (vocals/gtr) and bass player Alec, have also started recording their debut album for Hellcat Records in NYC with drummer Ara and other random musical guests. The album is entitled "Shoot the Kids at School" and follows the bands first release, a 7" entitled "Rock the 40oz" on BANKSHOT! The album should be out by the end of the year.

The Dropkick Murphy's have officially announced that guitarist Rick Barton, will no longer be touring with the
band. Rick is still considered a member of the band and will continue to write music with them but his recent marriage and responsibilities to his children have led to his decision. James Lynch, formerly of the Ducky Boys joined the band several months ago,  making the band a five piece. The Dropkicks have decided that the band definitely sounds better as a five piece with two guitars and decided not to go back to just one after Rick's departure. They have recently added Mark Orell on second guitar.
