Since some people ask where I'm getting the renewable energy to recharge my vehicles
(besides the roof mount solar which mainly runs the house),
I'll try to explain. There is a company in New England called
Sun Power Electric which has a
program called ReGen (Renewable Generation). 1-800-689-7957
Its mostly land fill gas
powered generators with some solar and wind. The biggest distinction is that they
guarantee to put *new* renewable energy on the grid in proportion to the amount of
power bought by those who sign up (not just repackaged hydro power which was on
the grid anyway). It actually has no direct connection at all to the power bill.
Its more like a charity, you give them money, they give you 'bragging rights' since
the amount of power you buy offsets other power sources.
For engineers: in reality my house and cars are still powered by the very efficient
(>50%) and low pollution natural gas plants about 2 miles from here. Due to Ohm's
law only a tiny fraction of the electrons are getting here come from any other source.
Power line losses are only about 3% (nationwide average is 7%). Someone living near
one of AllEnergy's facilities is getting 'my' green power. The result is still the
same, vastly lower pollution than a gas car and not contributing to the unsustainable national
trade deficit by importing oil.
