The Walt Disney Company, McDonald's
Corporation and UNESCO honor 2000 young people as "Millennium Dreamers
Ambassadors"
Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (May 7, 2000) - in recognition of outstanding
contributions to their communities around the world, 2000 exceptional
young people worldwide are being honored as "Millennium Dreamers
Ambassadors" by UNESCO, Disney and McDonald's at a Global Children's Summit
this week at the Walt Disney World Resort. The far-reaching search for young
people who made a significant and positive impact on their communities
acuminated with and official recognition ceremony of Tuesday morning, May 9.
Actor and activist Christopher Reeve said: "There is a new and greater
generation of dreamers. They are represented by the two thousands kids behind
me." The 2000 young Millennium Dreamers Ambassadors shared their
inspirational stories with each other and the world during a three-day Global
Children's Summit, the largest of its kind ever held.
Young people between the ages of 8 and 15 were eligible to participate in the
Millennium Dreamers program. Nomination forms were distributed via elementary
and secondary schools throughout 135 countries of the world. 100000 applications
were submitted independent judging panels from participating countries selected
the 2000 Millennium Dreamers based on the creativity, inspirational value and
impact of t he contribution on the community and beyond.
There are two thousand Millennium Dreamers Ambassadors, one thousand from the United States, one thousand from 125 countries around the world.
