• Other Information: K'Tara grew up on the streets, hard and tough. Like her mother before, she was a prostitute. Her mother's 'husband' was a drunkard who, after her mother's death, put her to work to replace her. While she has no idea who her real father was, she could guess that it was one of her mother's clients as neither her mother or her partner were red headed. It might well have been a member of the Comyn as she has for many years brief warnings of misfortune. If she has laran it is so latent as to be non-existent.
  
  When she was 17, her 'father' died in a drunken brawl and she found herself finally free and wanting a better life for herself. For as long as she could remember, she had watched the Renunciates in the town and marketplaces and had wondered at the pride they had in themselves. The few times she'd managed to speak with one, they had spoken with her without the derision that most of the townsfolk used in speaking with her even if they was an underlying tinge of pity.
  
  That same day, she sought entry at the Dalereuth Guildhouse and subsequently swore her Oath in the presence of Jaelle n'ha Gilla. She then took the name K'Tara n'ha Jaelle to make the start of her new life.
  
  She found it very hard. The concept of regular bathing and grooming was difficult to master but eventually she learned. She found she had a small talent for needlecraft and began to develop her skills as well as being able to indulge in one luxury. One of the few things she had enjoyed as a child was folk stories. She had a passion for them. During her housebound year she learned to read and write and began to write down the stories that had enthralled her. Later she was permitted into the local Terran areas to study Terran writings. It was there that she met a Terran researcher who was studying the Darkovan culture. After some initial distrust on her part, she began to work with him and eventually they become freemates. She acted as a guide for him across Darkover and he in turn took her offplanet to study Terran lore.
  
  K'Tara returned to Darkover and fell pregnant. Andra was called offplanet and when she was due to give birth she returned to Dalereuth guildhouse to wait for him. Unfortunately, an accident occurred and his shuttle crashed. The news from this sent her into premature labour but she and the twins survived.
  
  She has a great distrust of the Comyn and is uncomfortable around the trappings of wealth. She's also independently wealthy as Andra's family were rich and she has offworld contacts with her in-laws.
