The season after Wilcon was at its most successfull struck fear into all their local rivals everyway. All of a sudden from being crowned champions Wilcon Wanderers were the most renowned team in the area for their winning ways and for their united spirit. Rivals McClean began to split up as the team could not believe the strength of Wilcon. Older members of McClean quit their team in dismay leaving a lonely, destroyed club.
Our closest rivals seemed doomed!

However in this time fortunately for us a new club had recently been formed. This team took the name of Priors Gate or the Gaties as they are called to Wilconners. However since the team had only just been established and alliances could not be made quickly the season was cut short. 1998/1999 was the year McClean were finished while Priors Gate had only just been born.

At this foundation year for the Gaties, who would of guessed our close neighbours would take over from McClean and become our most deadly rival ever!

This season will never be forgot to Wilconers for a number of reasons. The 1st reason is that it was the death of McClean as we have never played them again since. The 2nd reason is that Priors Gate had just been formed. The main and best 3rd reason is that Priors Gate's debut match at Henknowle Primary School pitch was a 9-1 thriller to ease them into what Wilcon is all about.
The main legendary thing of this match though is not only of the score but the fact it was only a half time score. (That's right the gaties QUIT!)

This season of 98/99 is remarkable for many reasons as have been explained above, however this season also lost one of Wilcon's best players ever! D.Pollard had moved on to other things and Wilcon will never be the same again without him, one of Wilcon's founding fathers and for his playing ability. Therefore as Wicon's manager J.Mattimoe I declare this 98/99 season in tribute of the hard tackling midfield maestro who played 100% every time he played and was undoubtedly one of Wilcon's greatest Club Captains ever for a glorious 2 years.

In conclusion to this season, I believe Wilcon has lost a great Club Captain and player in D.Pollard however he will move on to bigger and better things and will never be forgot to all Wilconers.
