Matt hurriedly walked down the damp sidewalk in New York, avoiding all eye contact with passing strangers. The rain poured heavily from the thick clouds in the night-sky, causing his dirty-blonde hair to be drenched with water. Matt quickened his pace, for the rain was beginning to soak through his sports jacket as well as his worn out sneakers. He pulled out a soggy piece of paper from his pocket and attempted to decipher the faded lettering on the page. Matt abruptly stopped walking to get a better look at the address on the paper, when a person ran into him from behind. Startled, Matt turned around to face the person.
“Thanks for stopping right in the middle of the sidewalk.” The person said sarcastically to Matt.
“No problem.” Matt replied, equally sarcastic.
The person revealed a piece of paper he had been holding and glimpsed at Matt, “Well since you’re right here, you wouldn’t happen to know where 24 Broadway Street is? I’m supposed to be there for 10 O’clock and…”, The person trailed off as he checked his watched, “…I’m about to be late.”
Matt raised an eyebrow, slightly confused, “Actually, I do. I’m heading there right now.”
The person looked puzzled as well, “That’s really odd. I’m Jesse by the way. Jesse McCartney.” Jesse held out his hand for a handshake.
Matt returned the handshake, replying, “I’m Matt O’Leary. Well enough of the corny introductions, we still have one more block to go before we reach the building.”
The two boys hurriedly walked in silence, curious as to what exactly they were getting themselves into. Neither had any idea how entering one simple building would change their lives forever…
