What is Independent Thought Alarm?
And, to a lesser degree, what are film reviews by Matt Singer?
Independent Thought Alarm is Matt Singer's official writing archive. Currently, Matt is a freelancer for The Village Voice, and writes weekly film and DVD criticism for IFC.com. Since 2002, he's written "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" a biweekly film column for Movie Poop Shoot, and has contributed film criticism to over half a dozen other websites. Last year, he appeared on "Your Movie Show," MTV's stab at film criticism.

MISSION STATEMENT
(a.k.a. Statement of Principles)

To archive my writing and chronicle my quest to become a good film critic.

And what is a "good film critic?" According to Roger Ebert:

"The good critic has to be the ideal viewer, not the ideal director or writer or actor. He has to be presumably the most interested and alert and involved person in the audience. And he has to be able to write about what he has experienced in such a way that the public and the artist can learn something about what happened by reading his piece.
