EHL - Contracts System
|
|
| Home | 1 Introduction 1.1 Beginning at the start of the 1998/99 season, all players will be subject to a fixed length contract. 1.2 The initial length of contracts will be determined by;- * the round in which the player is drafted (1998 rookie draft) * the contract assigned by managers to existing members of the roster. 1.3 In subsequent seasons, length of contracts will be determined by;- * the round in which the player is drafted * the Free Agency rules 1.4 At the start of the system, after the rookie draft, managers will assign contracts of between 1 and 5 years to all members of the 32 man roster (except for rookies whose contract length is determined in 4.2). The 32 man roster will comprise;- * 7 players with 5 year contracts * 7 players with 4 year contracts * 6 players with 3 years * 6 players with 2 years * 6 players with a 1 year contract. 2 Currency System 2.1 The League will run a cash-based system to be used for the Free Agent Auction. 2.2 The League will award cash based upon;- * Overall finishing position in the standings * A set amount for playing games, reporting scores and statistics promptly 2.3 Managers may be fined should they;- * fail to report results and statistics as requested * Fail to meet any specified League deadlines. 3 Contract Details 3.1 For book-keeping purposes, contracts shall be recorded thus ; n/yy * where n equals the length of the original contract * and yy equals the year that the contract will end * i.e. a player drafted in 1998 on a 5 year contract will be designated as 5/03 (his contract will terminate at the end of the 2002/03 season 3.2 Players immediately become Free Agents at the end of their contracts. 3.3 If a player is cut from the 32-man roster before his contract expires, no compensation will be due. 3.4 When deciding upon his 32 man roster, a manager may only have a MAXIMUM of 10 players whose contracts expire in the same year. 3.5 Contract designations must be shown on the 32-man roster. Failure to correctly show these details will result in the loss of a 4th round draft pick. 4 Contract Lengths: Draft Picks 4.1 The rookie draft will be limited to 6 rounds only (However, any expansion teams will be allowed an additional 2 rounds of selections, if required to bring their squad up to 32 players. 4.2 For all Rookie drafts, contract lengths will be determined by the round in which a player is drafted;- * Round 15 years * Round 25 years * Round 34 years * Round 43 years * Round 52 years * Round 6 on1 year 4.3 For any extra ("sandwich") round picks, the contract length will be the lower of the two rounds the pick occurs between. (i.e. Compensation pick at end of round 2 - falls between round 2 and 3 (5 years and 4 years respectively) - contract length for compensation pick is 4 years.) 5 Trades 5.1 Managers must inform other managers of a player's contract details before any trade is completed. 5.2 On completion of a trade, the traded player(s) contract is automatically extended by 1 year. This should be shown as 5/03(T04) where * 5/03 is the players contract from his old club * T denotes trade * the 04 shows the revised contract finish year. 5.3 Should any player be traded more than once and return to his original club, then no contract extension is awarded. 6 Player Categories 6.1 Each player will fall into one of three arbitrary categories; * Franchise (type F) * All-Star (type A) * Journeyman (type J) 6.2 Skaters will fall into the appropriate category based on the number of shifts they are rated for in the Face-Off game No. of Shifts No. of Shifts * Franchise (F) - Forwards 12+, Defense 14+ * All-Stars (A)- Forwards 10/11 Defense 12/13 * Journeyman (J)- Forwards up to 9Defense up to 11 6.3 Goalies categories will be decided by their Save Percentage from the previous NHL season (minimum 40 games played) * Franchise (F)- 92.00% or better * All-Star (A)- 91.00 to 91.99 % * Journeyman (J)- 90.9% or lower. 6.4 These categories will be used to determine a notional player "quality" and compensation for lost Free Agents. 7 Free Agents (FAs) 7.1 Players immediately become FAs at the end of their contracts. 7.2 Teams may re-sign up to 3 FAs - no more than one from each Category 7.3 Should a team have no FAs in a category, they may re-sign an additional player from the next category down. (i.e. No type F, choose an extra type A. Or if no type F or type A, can choose 3 type J). 7.4 Teams have one 5 year, one 3 year and one 2 year contract extension for FAs. These can be allocated to the re-signed FAs as a manager feels fit. 7.5 All un-signed FAs then become Restricted Free Agents (RFAs) and go into the Free Agent Auction. 8 Compensation 8.1 Compensation for RFAs will be awarded before the Free Agent Auction. 8.2 Compensation for veteran type F or A players will be;- * A player aged 35 or older (in real life) as at 1st October - Cash ONLY * A player who retires before or during the coming NHL season - NIL 8.3 Subject to the above, for each type of player lost, the compensation awarded will be;- * FranchiseDraft pick at end of 1st round, plus £1000 cash * All-StarDraft pick at end of 2nd round, plus £500 cash * Journeymanno compensation 8.4 A manager may elect to forfeit the Draft Pick for an additional 50% cash (i.e type F £1000+50% = £1500). 9 Free Agent Auction 9.1 The FA Auction will take place after the end of the play-offs and prior to the rookie draft. 9.2 Managers will be able to use the cash they have accrued through rules 2 and 8 to bid for RFAs in the auction. 9.3 A manager may acquire a MAXIMUM of three RFAs in the FA Auction - no more than one of type F or type A. 9.4 Teams have one 4 year, one 3 year and one 2 year contract extension for RFAs. These can be allocated to the successfully bid for RFAs as a manager feels fit. 9.5 The actual auction method/process is still to be decided. 10 Additional Players 10.1 After the auction, any team that has been unable to sign 6 FAs in total (3 re-signings and 3 RFAs) will have their un-signed RFAs returned to them. They may then sign as many of these as required to make up a total of 6 FA or RFA signings. These players will be assigned any un-used FA or RFA contracts. (e.g. Manager only signs a type J FA, giving him a 3 year contract. He successfullly bids for 3 RFAs. Then he can sign 2 of the RFAs returned to his roster, giving one 1 5 year contract and the other a 2 year). 10.2 If still short of the 6 players, a team may sign ANY unselected RFA(s) to bring the number up to 6. Contracts allocated as per 10.1. |
