Last updated - September 1998. (changes since
October 1997 issue in bold) I'll try to update this page
soon, but you get the idea.
1. League Fees
1.1. A League fee of £10 (US$16) is payable at the start
of the season. Funds in GB£ please! (This fee has now been
waived)
2. League Structure
2.1. The League will be known as the European Hockey League
2.2. The format of the League will be decided prior to the start of each
season, dependant upon the number of managers and teams. The details to
be decided will be Number of Games, Division Structure and Playoff
Format (number of teams, qualifying criteria and games per series).
3. Results
3.1. League Standings will be compiled on the basis of two points
awarded for a win, one point for a tie.
3.2. In the event of a tie in points the following will be used to
determine the higher placed team.
3.2.1. Road Points
3.2.2. Points within division (where applicable)
3.2.3. Points within conference (where applicable)
3.2.4. Goal Difference
3.2.5. Toss of coin.
3.3. Results must be reported regularly to the commissioner, in line
with any deadlines set by the commissioner. Games not reported by
appropriate deadlines may be autoplayed on the computer.
4. Playoffs
4.1. Play-off qualifiers will be as determined prior to the start of the
season (see 2.2). Exception: Any team failing to complete it's home
schedule may be excluded from the play-offs at the Commissioner's
discretion.
4.2. In the event of a tie in points, qualifiers will be determined
as per rule 3.2 EXCEPT where the tied teams are from separate divisions
AND the divisions have un-even schedules (usually if there are an uneven
number of teams in the League). In this instance, 3.2.1 is applied. If
still level, a two game home and away, most goals play-off will be
played by the commissioner (or a third party if his team is concerned)
using the computer autoplay feature. The teams' standard line-ups will
be used.
4.3. The team with the most points will play the qualifier with the
fewest points (within their conference, if applicable), except that
division winners will not play each other in the opening round of
playoffs.
4.4. Home advantage will be decided in the order of;- Conference Winners
(if applicable), Division Winners, Most Points.
4.5. The final will be best 4 of 7. Duration of previous rounds will be
decided prior to commencing the play-offs, to facilitate the completion
of the play-offs by the end of July at the latest.
5. Platform
5.1. The Face-Off computer and board games will be the only allowable
platform.
5.2. No player may play out of position (this includes defenders
specified as LD or RD only)
5.3. For BOARD GAME Managers, the following advanced and optional
rules of Face-Off will be used:
5.3.1. Any player on the ice for more than his allotted shifts is
subject to these penalties (round down)
Forwards: Range D on card, defence rating halved
Defenders: Range 1-2(1), defence and clearing halved
5.3.2. Normally, players with less than 12 shifts should not be double
shifted.
5.3.3. Power play and penalty killing lines are not subject to double
shifting rules (unless the penalty is greater than two minutes
duration).
5.3.4. Player positioning - 9.03O, 9.03V, 9.04V, 9.05V
5.3.5. Passing - 12.06V, 12.07V
5.3.6. Icing - 14.01A, 14.01V (also use these when goalie freezes
puck)
5.3.7. Forechecking - 16.01V
5.3.8. Shot Blocking - 21.00A (includes shots on an empty net)
5.3.9. Injuries - 26.01V, 26.02V
5.3.10. Checking Game / Pressure Offence - 27.01, 27.02V. N.B.
CHANGES MAY ONLY BE MADE AT FACE-OFFS, not when the puck is in play.
5.4. For the COMPUTER version:
5.4.1. Set depletion to YES
5.4.2. Set out of position to YES
5.4.3. Set break to ZERO
6. Draft
6.1. The League will be run on a draft basis, with all unclaimed and
rated
players available in the draft, subject to any limitations imposed (e.g.
drafting from one conference only) prior to the draft.
6.2. The draft will be held immediately before each season.
6.3. Draft order will be in reverse order of merit - i.e. team with
lowest point total in previous season drafts first etc.
6.4. The play-off winner will draft last.
6.5. No team that reached the play-offs can draft before a
non-qualifier.
6.6. Where teams are tied on points, the tie-breaker rules apply (see
3.2).
7. Rosters
7.1. The roster maximum is 32 players, including un-rated
players. Your roster must be listed with FULL names in your
instructions.
7.1.1. (deleted)
7.2. Teams may dress 18 players plus 2 goalies for each game.
7.3. Trading is allowed from the end of the play-offs up to and
including 28 February.
7.4. Trading between two teams with one coach shall only be allowed on
an absolute need basis and subject to prior clearance with the
Commissioner.
7.5. Players with less than 25 NHL games are ineligible
for the play-offs.
7.6. Players can play the proportion of NHL games specified on the Games
Out Chart (rounded down). Skaters plus No.1 goalies carded for 55 or
more NHL games are subject to the games out chart. The chart applies
only to players in a team's normal starting line-up, but this proviso
should not be abused.
8. Instructions
8.1. Instructions should be sent out at the start of the season - no
later than 15 November - to cover all road games.
8.2. Instructions MUST include a full roster showing players full names
in Alphabetical order (complete with contract details), a complete list
of cut players, and games out chart listing game number, opponent,
players out and replacements. Please ensure any Minor League Players on
the roster are marked "Minors" or "MLP".
8.3. Computer coach instructions will be allowed for games against
computer owners.
9. Waiver Draft
9.1. A waiver draft will be held around Christmas. All draft choices
will be made in advance, by post or by telephone.
9.2. All rated players cut from rosters (see 7.1 and 8.2) will be
available for selection.
9.3. The draft order will be the same as in the main draft.
9.4. For each player claimed in the waiver draft a team must cut a
rostered player not scheduled for use during the regular season.
10. Statistics
10.1. Statistics should be sent to the League statistician as specified.
Final stats are due by 1 May. Failure to submit stats will lead to the
loss of draft pick(s) at the Commissioner's discretion.
10.2. The following stats should be listed:
10.2.1. Goalies - minutes, W-L-T, saves, goals against, Goals against
average, Save percentage.
10.2.2. All players - games played, goals, assists, points, penalty
minutes, powerplay and short-handed goals, shots, shot percentage, MVP
*s.
10.2.3. Teams - powerplays (goals, chances and percentage success rate),
short-handed situations (as powerplays).
11. Contracts (currently suspended)
11.1. Coaches must list contracts for all their rostered players when
issuing instructions.
11.2. Managers must comply with all contract rules as specified in
the contract system. |
