Our Flock
My husband, Matt McCord, began showing in 1990. He
got started in the program through his agriculture teacher, John
Colquitt, at Marbury High School. Matt started out showing pigs
then he started showing sheep and cattle. Mr. Colquitt had an
interesting way of spiking the interest of showing. He offered
his students a choice: show a hog or write a multiple page report
on livestock. Well, I'm sure you can guess what most of the students
chose to do. For my husband, this one opportunity to show turned
into a life long hobby and also kept him out of a lot of trouble!
I, on the other hand, was raised on a farm and have ridden quarter
horses all my life. I would strongly encourage anyone who has
the attention of young minds to give them the opportunity to show
and raise livestock. Not only does it give children "something
to do" but it also teaches responsibility and gives the child
a feeling of importance.
Our current flock is rather small at this time because
we are focusing on producing an excellent group. Our flock consists
of mainly of Suffolk and Suffolk/Hampshire cross, purchased from
Corneilius Farms and Slay Farms. We currently have 7 mature ewes,
6 ewe lambs and 4 buck lambs. Pictures of the lambs available
on the Newbies page, more
coming soon!
