The 519 Building (519 Main Street) |
Built in 1910, the 519 building has an unusual architectural history. Built of limestone quarried in
Indiana, the stone pieces were numbered, shipped to Mile City by train, and then reassembled
like a giant puzzle. Originally the First National Bank, the building served in that capacity until
a new bank was built in the 1960's (modern 1st Bank on the corner of Main and 7th) while the 2nd
floor was home to the Miles City Club. The 519
then underwent a series of reincarnations, serving as a beauty college, office space, and
the home of the parole department. During the Cold War, it was also designated as a bomb shelter in case of
a nuclear attack by the Soviet Union.
In the 1980's, the 519 supper club was opened on the second floor. A variety of phenomena have been
reported, such as cold spots, apparitions, and bottles falling over.
