JANE PUCKETT MCKEE. HER HUSBAND, THE LATER GEORGE H. STEWART, DIED EIGHT YEARS
AGO. MRS. STEWART WAS A MEMBER OF
THE LUCAS AVENUE BAPTIST CHURCH AND HAS LONG BEEN ACTIVE IN CHURCH AFFAIRS OF
HER COMMUNITY.

AT 4:25 O'CLOCK FOLLOWING AN ILLNESS OF SEVERAL MONTHS.
HE WAS BORN AND REARED IN LAURENS COUNTY, THE SON OF THE LATE HASTINGS B.
AND ALICE MARTIN STEWART. HE WAS A
MEMBER OF THE LUCAS AVENUE BAPTIST CHURCH. FOR 27 YEARS HE SERVED AS A DEACON OF
THE CHURCH AND AS SUPERINTENDENT OF THE SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR 17 YEARS.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, MRS. LILLIE MAE MCKEE STEWART; ONE SON,

Obituary
Andrew Hasting Stewart, 57, of 19
Smythe St., died late Monday at his home.
He was a native of Laurens
County, son of the late George Hasting and Lillie Mae McKee Stewart, and was a
member and former music director of Henderson Baptist Church.
He was a retired Watts Mill employee, a secretary of the Rosie Walker
Masonic Lodge for a number of years, a past president of the Laurens County
Singing Convention, having served for some 20 years, and a past royal patron of
Rose Court Order 13 of Amaranth.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lois
Grant Stewart; three daughters, Mrs. Sam [Betty] Power, Jr., of Laurens; Mrs.
Edward w. [Jerrie] Willis of Scott AFB, Ill., and Mrs. J. Lockwood [Sara] Brown
of Atlanta, Ga., three sisters. Mrs. Tom E. Avery and Mrs. Dorsey West of
Laurens and Mrs. Ralph Brewington of Charlotte, NC and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be
conducted Wednesday at 4 PM at Henderson Baptist Church by the Rev. William
Jeffords and the Rev. Grange S. Cothran. Burial
will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Pallbearers will be Fred S.
Bishop, Willis Todd, Frank B. Roper, Harold Dunn, Carol Lindley, and Arthur
Rush.
The body is at Kennedy Mortuary
and will be placed in the church Wednesday at 3 PM.

81, of 19 Smythe St., Laurens, and widow of Andrew Hastings Stewart, died April
1 at the Laurens Health Care Center.
Born in Anderson County, she was
a daughter of the late Eddie Preston and Maggie Lee Bolt Grant.
She was a member of Laurens
Second Baptist Church and a member of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class, a
member of the Eastern Star, a charter member of the Order of the Amaranth,
member of the WMU, the Mothers' Club and past Royal Matron of Rose Court.
She was retired from J. P. Stevens Company, Watts Plant.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs.
Edward [Jerri] Willis of Waterloo, Mrs. Lockwood [Sara] Brown of Stone Mountain,
Ga., a son-in-law, Sam Power, Jr of Laurens; eight grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a
daughter, Betty Power, and a granddaughter, Kay Power.
Services were conducted Saturday
at Second Baptist Church with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Thomas Eugene Avery, 89, died
Friday morning in Laurens District Hospital.
Born in Laurens County, he was a
son of the late Samuel Joseph and Queenie Hellams Avery.
Mr. Avery was a retired textile worker and an honorary life deacon of
Lucas Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Avery are a son,
the Rev. Samuel William Avery of Taylors; two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Hughes of
Columbia and Mrs. Sybil Lamb of Irmo; a brother, Luther "Bill" Avery
of Laurens; a sister, Mrs. Mary Herbert of Laurens; six grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
His wife, Mary Alice Stewart
Avery, 65,died Friday afternoon in Laurens District Hospital of a heart attack.
Born in Laurens, she was a
daughter of the late George H. and Lillie Mae McKee Stewart.
She was a retired textile worker and organist of Lucas Avenue Baptist
Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs.
Adrienne Brewington of Charlotte, NC. and Mrs. Kathleen West of Laurens.
Services were 3 PM Sunday in
Lucas Avenue Baptist Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

the daughter of the late George H. and Lillie McKee Stewart.
She was a member of Green Memorial Church of Charlotte and was dietitian
supervisor of Charlotte Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.
Surviving are two sons, Keith
Brewington of Charlotte, NC and Francis Brewington of Lancaster; one sister,
Mrs. Dorsey [Kathleen] West of Laurens and two grandsons.
Services were conducted at 11 am
Saturday at Green Memorial Church in Charlotte and graveside services were 3 PM
Saturday in Rose Hill Cemetery in Laurens.

1815 Purser Drive, Charlotte, NC; died Dec. 15.
He was born in Fountain Inn and
was the son of the late Irvin M. Brewington and Mattie Speltz Brewington.
He was a veteran of World War II,
a graduate of North Greenville Junior College, Furman University and Southern
Theological Seminary. He was a
pastor of Fairfield Baptist Church of Winnsboro for 10 years.
He had made his home in Charlotte for the past 15 years.
He is survived by his wife,
Adrienne Stewart Brewington; formerly of Laurens; two sons, Keith Brewington of
Charlotte, NC and Francis Brewington of Lancaster; two brothers, I. M.
Brewington Jr. of Taylorsville, NC and Earl Brewington of Greenwood; and two
grandsons.
Services were held Friday at
Green Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte with graveside services at Rose Hill
Cemetery in Laurens.

of 22 Smythe St., Laurens, widow of E. Dorsey West, died Friday at Laurens
County Hospital.
A native of Laurens, she was a
daughter of the late George Hastings and Lillie Mae McKee Stewart.
She was a graduate of the 1943 class at Ford High School in Laurens and a
member of Laurens Second Baptist Church where she was a pre-school Sunday School
Teacher, secretary of Discipleship Training, a member of the handbell choir, and
the church secretary for nearly 30 years.
Surviving are a son, Eddie West
of Laurens; a daughter, Gwen W. Adair of Greenwood; and six grandchildren, Kim
Adair, Dawn Adair, Kristi Adair, Andy West, Emily West and Tommy West.
Services were conducted Sunday at
Laurens Second Baptist Church with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen
Stewart West of the home; a son, Eddie West of Laurens; a daughter, Gwen W.
Adair of Greenwood; and a brother, Harold West of Greenwood.
