From Milton Pym

ORAL TRADITION HAS IT THAT AT ABOUT AGE 12, ANDREW LOGAN McKEE WROTE A LETTER TO HIS FATHER, ASKING WHY HE HAD NOT WRITTEN TO HIM, SENT HIM A BIRTHDAY OR CHIRISTMAS CARD, SEEN HIM, OR IN ANY WAY ACKNOWLEDGED HIM.  TO OUR KNOWLEDGE HIS FATHER DID NOT WRITE BACK.

HIS FATHER WAS LIVING WITH IN A VERY CLOSE DISTANCE OF ABOUT 20-30 MILES OF HIM, BUT HE HAD NOT SEEN OR HEARD FROM HIM FOR YEARS.

IT IS SAID THAT THIS LETTER IS STILL IN EXISTANCE AND SOMEONE STILL HAS IT.  NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHO HAS IT OR WHERE IT IS.

Notes for MARY JANE PUCKETT:

Greenville News        March 22, 1928   page 3

Obituary:  It was indeed a great shock to the town and community which was caused by the sudden death of Mrs. Mary J. McKee which occurred at her home here on Friday, March 16. She was 64 years of age and was in apparently good health until stricken with an attack of heart failure, which lasted only a few moments. The funeral services were held on Saturday, conducted by her pastor, rev. J. A. Martin assisted by Rev. W. M. Creamer. Interment took place in Poplar Springs Cemetery near Ware Shoals. Mrs. McKee was widely known here and elsewhere, having resided here for a number of years. She was held in high esteem by those who knew her. She was of a noble Christian character, a consistent member of the Baptist church for a long number of years. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, and was especially a much devoted and faithful mother and grand mother. Mrs. McKee was preceded to the grave twenty-five years by her husband, A. L. McKee.

The following children survive her: T.E. McKee of Mill Spring, NC; JD McKee of Greenwood, JA McKee of Laurens; Mrs. N H Hill, Gray Court; Mrs. G H Stewart, Laurens; Mrs. S. W. Wilson, Spartanburg; Mrs. R. L. Patton, Ninety-six; Mrs. J G Thomas, Laurens.

Virginia remembers hearing that Mary Jane was sitting up in bedding holding on to one of the grandchildren (Think one of Lillie's children) when she handed the child back because she felt weak and then she died.

She rented out rooms, like a boarding house.

From Lillie  Workman

When Mary Jane died it was pouring down rain and a huge crowd came and had a hard time trying to keep dry.
