Summer Camp Program

Every summer since 1955, children ages 6 to 21 affected by neuromuscular diseases have had the opportunity to spend a fun-filled week at accessible, barrier-free campsites. During this special week, campers enjoy activities ranging from outdoor sports like swimming, boating, baseball and horseback riding, to less physically demanding programs like arts and crafts projects and talent shows.

Meanwhile, parents enjoy a week of richly deserved respite from their day-to-day challenges, secure in the knowledge that their children's special needs will be met by trained camp counselors and MDA staff.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association sponsors some 90 Summer Camp programs all across the country. The Summer Camp programs are designed to provide a week of fun for our campers with neuromuscular diseases. The camp programs offer swimming, fishing, boating, sports, arts & crafts and FUN !

Summer Camp Volunteers:
Camp volunteers are paired one on one with campers. As volunteers we provide the care, supervision, and attention that our campers with neuromuscular diseases need. We get our campers from activity to activity, we lift and carry where necessary, we offer any assistance our campers need, we "bunk down" near the campers, and we offer friendship. If you are interested in becoming a camp volunteer, send us an e-mail.

Summer Camp Sponsors:
The cost to sponsor a camper by sending him/her to camp for a week is $525.00. You and/or your organization can provide a camper with a great summer by becoming a sponsor. As a sponsor, you will be invited to our special sponsor VIP Visitor's Day during our week at camp. There you will meet camper's who appreciate what your support makes possible. Your support will be recognized on the local broadcast of the Jerry Lewis "Stars Across America" MDA Labor Day Telethon. For an additional information, please send us an e-mail.

For more information, or to volunteer, call your local MDA office or (800) 572-1717.
