Live Steam Locomotives

3-1/2" gauge

I've been a full member of the Waushakum Live Steamers, in Holliston, since 1985. This is a photo of me running my engine at the former Waushakum track on Norfolk St in Holliston.  This track has been gone since 1995, and the club has a new track running at a new site in Holliston.

The engine is a 3 1/2" gauge 4-6-2, built by George Dimond from Friends Models castings. George's documentation says he first ran the engine in August of 1967, which makes the engine one month older than I am. It still runs great. See a panoramic view of my locomotive here.

The prototype of this engine is Boston and Maine P-4 class #3714.  One example of the real locomotive class, #3713, still exists at Steamtown USA in Scranton, PA.  It is in the shop slowly undergoing restoration to running condition. This photo was taken at Steamtown in 1997, before they moved it into the shops for its restoration. Hopefully they'll restore it with the speed lettering like on my model.

I've been going to WLS for most of my life, with my parents first bringing me there when I was a child.  This is a photo of me riding on behind George Dimond and two of his engines doubleheaded. Interestingly enough, the front engine of the doubleheader is the locomotive I now own.

I'm currently working on a 3-1/2" gauge 4-6-0, designed by Bill Van Brocklin. For more info on this project, check out my current projects page.

Gauge 1

I also own an Aster gauge 1 "Americanized" JNR 2-6-0, which runs on track. Gauge 1 is 1/32 scale, 1.75" gauge, which is the same track that LGB trains run on. This is an alcohol fired engine. I got it as a bolt together kit.

I haven't fully assembled the engine, due to some issues I've got with how the fittings attach to the boiler, so I need to do some modifications to it. Its slowly moving back to the top of the "project" pile...

O Gauge

I've built a toy-like steam engine to run on Lionel track. More info on Dickins can be found on my oscillator page.
