How Do I Start?

Like any other hobby it will cost you money initially. To start with
purchase as much Meccano as possible and as often as you can, you can
purchase either a new set and parts or a second hand set and parts if you
can find them.
All Meccano parts are of the same high quality and finish. Larger sets
contain a greater variety, making possible the construction of bigger and
more elaborate models.
There are over 300 parts in the system all available separately.

Once you have learned the knack of fitting the various parts together and
have discovered, by building some models from instructions, some of the
unlimited possibilities provided by combining the parts in various ways, you
begin to realize the enormous scope which the Meccano system presents for
reproducing almost any type of engineering structure or mechanism.

WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS HOBBY?

Unlike most other hobbies when you have tired of the model you have just
built, you simply dismantle it and place all the parts back in the cabinet
and start building again, and any subject you wish. Unlike other hobbies
such as trains or boats with Meccano you can build anything you like i.e. a
Locomotive one month and a Crane the next and then a Clock it is just
unlimited the things you can build.

Once you have acquired your collection of Meccano, model building will not
cost you a cent. No special tools are required, just a spanner and a
screwdriver. The hobby does not make any mess and can be carried out on the
kitchen table if required, you do not need a workshop.
