The Spanish Family | Most people live on the central plain or the coast. The size of a typical Spanish family is getting smaller as women choose to have fewer children. This is partly because more women want to work after they marry. The number of divorces in Spain is very low and family ties are still strong - many children live at home until they marry. |

Siesta |
Almost everything in Spain, including shops, museums, and churches, closes for at least two hours in the hottest part of the day. This rest period is called the "siesta". In evenings, people often enjoy a walk with their friends and families before having late dinner. |

The Costa Blanca, Costa Brava, and the Costa del Sol are very popular with tourists from northern Europe. The cities of Madrid, Barcellona, and Sevilla are the cities to visit if you like history and culture. Barcellona held the Olympic Games in 1992. Spain is also the place to go to if you enjoy festivals - it has more than 3,000 every year. One of the most popular is the festival held in Pampalona every July, when bulls are allowed to run through the city's streets. |

La Tomatina Festival | One of the oddest festivals has to be La Tomatina. This is a huge fight with ripe squashy tomatoes. All this started in 1944 when tomatoes were thrown at a festival procession! |
