February 1, 1947 (Sat)

I got up about 8. Right after breakfast, I redded the table up and straightened my bedroom up and started to sew. I sewed all day - except to take time out for lunch and dishes. I just have to finish sewing the skirt on to the waist, put the zipper in, the shoulder pads and the hem - that's all. I sewed the pockets in my black coat - then ran out of thread. Gosh, but it looks nice. Margaret brought the kids over about 5:30. Mother and Dad left about 6:30 and when Charlie came about 8, I was till there with the kids. I was so mad I bawled. While Charlie watched the kids, I took my shower and Marg and Jess finally came. Charlie and I saw "The Razors Edge." We got back at 12 and Charlie left about 1.

February 2, 1947 (Sun)

It was after 9 when I got up. I boiled some eggs for our breakfast. By the time I finished reading the paper it was eleven. Steve was over. Mom, Midge and I went over to Holmes to see their new rug. Midge was over here practically all day - even for dinner. After Mother and I did dishes, we got some wire and tape and net and started shaping little bonnets for Midge and Ruthie. Going to be cute. Oh yes, Howard, Ahleen and girls were over for awhile this morning. I just worked crossword puzzles and listened to the radio. I got my clothes ready for work tomorrow, got caught up writing in my diary. Its almost ten so good-night.

February 3, 1947 (Mon)

Jess took me down to the busline this morning. The weather seems to be getting a little chillier. At noon Evie, Anna May, Helen, Kathleen and I ate lunch in snack bar. At noon we went down to dime store and stopped at the Paris. I got a letter from Betty Jane and wrote her a nice long one. I sent a $1.00 for some cakepans and such and sent for patterns for Ruthie and Midge's dresses. Came straight home from work. Ate, did dishes, got cleaned up. Charlie came about 7, he Mother and I met Harriet, Bud and Bud's mother downtown. We went to Paris - Harriet liked the dress Evie and Anna May did so I ordered aqua for Evie and yellow for Anna May and Harriet. We went to Grand Leaders and I put some curtains for living room on layaway. Beautiful - regular $7.98 for $3.99. Charlie and I went to take instructions. The rest came out to our house. They left about 10 - Charlie about 12.

February 4, 1947 (Tues)

Gosh, but it got cold over night. Down to 1degree above. Jess took me down to busline. We were fairly busy this morning. I got sick about 10:30, but I had to wait till noon cause Dorothy went to the dentist. Mother picked me up at noon.. I came home and went to bed. I vomited, but didn't have the cramps too bad. I read magazines all afternoon. There were some pretty good stories in the Woman's Home Companion. Mother brought my supper to me. I think those pills the nurse gives me helps quite a bit. I went to sleep about 7:30 or 8 - didn't even wake up to get ready to go to bed.

February 5, 1947 (Wed)

Still very cold. Mother took us down to busline. We were very busy today. I typed the labor report this morning. At noon Anna May, Helen, Kathleen and I ate lunch in snack bar. I met Mother at 12 and we looked around for magazine basket for Fern and Ray from Charlie and I, but didn't find any. We went to Garmire's - Gee, their refrigerators are nice - they seem to think we'll get ours by March 1st - I certainly hope so. Busy again this afternoon. After work we stopped and got for Harriet a sick call thing. Mother got a magazine basket this afternoon. This evening I ironed, did a little sewing and started packing my suitcase. Its almost 10 so think I'll hit the sack.

I slept with Mrs. Christman last night - it was about 8 when I got up. After breakfast and dishes, I cleaned the living room and dining room. Dot and Bob were over for dinner. Uncle Charlie was here too. This afternoon everybody went away but Dot, Uncle Charlie and I. We just talked mostly. I took a shower this evening. Harriet and Bud came and Bill Delusak (the best man) and Aunt Gertie and Uncle Walt. Ray and Bill went to Goshen and then Charlie, I, Harriet, and Bud went to Goshen for the rehearsal. Harriet stayed there on the way back Charlie had a flat tire and it was so cold - we stopped and got hamburgs and hot coffee. It was midnight before I got to bed.

February 8, 1947 (Sat)

Aunt Gertie woke me up at 5:30 this morning. We left about 7 for Goshen - got there at 8:15. I pinned the boutonnieres on Charlie, Dave (the other usher), Ray and Bill. It was nice wedding - the church is awfully small though. Afterwards we went over to Fern's grandmother's while the wedding party had their picture taken. Then to the wedding breakfast. It was in a private home -- nice. Then to the reception. It was a kind of dull one. Nothing to drink at all. It was about 5 when we left there. On the way back Bud had a flat tire. By the time we ate, did dishes etc. it was time to go to bed - it was around 11 when I got to bed.

It was about 9:30 when I went to bed.

February 26, 1947 (Wed)

Just two months till our wedding day. Jess was going to take me to busline, but couldn't start the car. I walked to busline and was late to work. We didn't have anything to do all day so I just read some more of "The Razor's Edge." At noon Helen, Kathleen, Anna May, Evie and I ate lunch in snack bar. Mother said Garmire's called and said our refrigerator was there. Just the kind I wanted - Norge - 7 cubic feet. So I called and told them I'd be down Sat. I didn't expect it quite so soon - I was really surprised. Howard and Ahleen took me down for my instructions - matrimony. Charlie met me afterwards. He says our stove is also in - everything comes at once - but it certainly does make one happy. It was about 12 when Charlie left.

February 28, 1947 (Fri)

Oh yes, I got the cake pans, measuring cups and spoons which I sent for. Mother took me down to busline. We weren't busy again today. I finished reading "The Razor's Edge". Payday. I bought a nice pair of white gloves from Dorothy for $1.50. Mother and Dad picked me up after work. We went to Dr. Conley's. He took a wart off my finger and Dad's face. Used the electric needle on it. He says I should leave it bandaged a couple of days. I washed my hair, washed out hose and worked on a jigsaw puzzle - went to bed about 9:30.

End of the month

It seems a shame to have all these empty pages in it. There isn't any leap year this year (not that I would need it - I've got my man - or practically anyway - I'm not the least bit worried now.) Another month of 1947 has gone - another month closer to our wedding day - just one month and 26 days now - eight weeks from Saturday. My goodness, I forgot to mention Evie and Anna May (I think Donna Lou and Betty Jane too) asked if it would be alright to give me a shower the 26th of March - I wonder why so early. But of course I didn't object - in fact that makes me very happy indeed. Golly, everything has been going so nice. It seems that I've been having much more than my share of good luck and happiness. I'm so afraid it won't last. I feel guilty sometimes for being so darned happy when other people aren't. Everything seems to be going so much my way that I can't help being so happy. Charlie's cousin is going to take colored films of our wedding, got our turquoise chair for nothing, an interspring mattress, wallpaper, our kitchen linoleum, ordered the flower girl dresses, my wedding gown came - got my white wedding shoes; Aunt Elma told me about her giving me a shower; had my engagement picture taken, got my drapery material, the bridesmaids came in and were such pretty colors and looked so very nice on the girls; Evie told me about the shower; and our refrigerator and stove came. Oh yes, Charlie also brought me a box of candy for St. Valentine's day. Now what more could I have asked for just one short month? Everyday something happens. My goodness how do people who decide to get married just a very short time before they do every have time to get everything done. Here we still have another month and 26 days and still have a lot to do besides all we have done already. Well, now, what will March hold. Have a nice weekend to look forward to - a party Saturday night and another on Sunday night. Well, only time will tell.
