March 1, 1947 (Sat)
I got up about 7:30 this morning. As soon as we ate, we got cleaned up and went to the post office (I sent for 8 forks and knives to match the spoons I have - also a tray) and then to Garmires. Charlie and I are going out there at noon Monday again. I didn't do too much this afternoon. I packed my suitcase and got my things ready to go to N. Manchester. We took care of the kids this afternoon. We all got cleaned up then. Margaret had a party this evening. Mother and Dad went over, and Charlie, Dot and Bob came about 10. South Side won the Sectionals this evening - hope they take State. I went back to North Manchester. It was about 3 when we got there.
March 2, 1947 (Sun)
I got up about 7:30 this morning. We were going to go to Church, but Charlie wanted to finish moving his stock so we didn't go to church. I didn't get to see Charlie very much today - just at breakfast, dinner and a little while this evening. Most of the day I just cleaned eggs. This evening Bud and Harriet came. We all got cleaned up and went over to Metzger's for supper. They had a party for Christman's and Charlie - a going away party. An awfully lot of people were there. We kids left about 10:00 cause Charlie and Bob still had some work to do. It was just a little before eleven when I got to bed.
March 3, 1947 (Mon)
Still lots of snow on the ground. Today is Margaret's birthday - she is 28. I got up at 20 after 6. Charlie was late getting chores done. It was 7:30 before we picked Dot up. Yes, I was late to work. We came out to the house first. It was 9:30 when I finally got to work. Charlie went out to pay on refrigerator and then home. At noon I ate lunch with the kids in the snack bar. Pretty busy all day. I came straight home from work. Dad's car was in garage so Jess had to take me down for instructions. Charlie did manage to get here by 9. Father Manoski took us to meet Monsignor Depe. Our wedding is definitely April 26th at 9. About 10 when we got back here. Charlie moved over to our farm today - I got him something to eat and then left about 11.
March 4, 1947 (Tues)
I walked down to the busline this morning. We were very busy again today. Margie Dornte got her diamond to other day. At noon Evie, Kathleen, Helen and I ate lunch in snack bar. Evie and I took my proofs back - should get them Sat. Saw Pat Smith there. I bought me a couple pairs of panties at Wolf and D's. After work this evening I went downtown. I paid on my charge account at Wolf and D's, paid on my curtains at Grand Leader and got my living room curtains out of layaway. Mother made some darling sample hats and veils for bridesmaids. I'll see what the girls think tomorrow. I did a little sewing this evening and now it is almost ten so night.
March 5, 1947 (Wed)
Went to work this morning, but got sick right away and Mom picked me up at the busline. I took those pills again - I vomited, but didn't have such bad pains. I read magazines all day - American and Woman's Home Companion. I also started reading the book "Keeper of the Bees". I've read it before but has been so long ago that I've forgotten what it is about. I didn't eat any lunch, but did eat a little supper this evening. I still wasn't feeling so hot though by the time to go to sleep for the night - didn't bother to put my hair up.
March 6, 1947 (Thurs)
I didn't sleep very much last night so I didn't go to work. After I did get up, Lucile called (had intended to call Mother) she certainly was surprised when I answered. I felt quite a bit better this afternoon so I got dressed and sewed this afternoon on my pink dress - sewed waist on to bottom and put zipper and shoulder pads in. Now I just have to have belt made and put the hem in - gosh, but I think it looks nice. I got cleaned up this evening then and Mother and Dad took me down for instructions. Charlie was already there waiting for me. Charlie left pretty early this evening about 11:30.
March 7, 1947 (Fri)
Back to work today and we certainly had plenty to do. At noon, Anna May, Helen, Kathleen and I ate lunch in snack bar. Evie has been out sick Wed, Thurs, and today. I went down to Cron-Leone Studios this noon to see about getting my glossy prints - wasn't ready. I went back again after work, but still wasn't ready. However, they will take it down to Journal for me tomorrow - should be in March 16th's Journal. This evening I washed my hair. Roy and Alma came over and then Ray and LaVon and somebody by the name of Gert Sunday. It was midnight before I got to bed.
March 8, 1947 (Sat)
I got an invitation asking me to the shower for me. When I woke up this morning, the sun was shining so bright - I got up about 7:30. Jess, Margaret, the kids and I left about 9:00. Stopped, got the living-room wallpaper and Margaret a pair of shoes. We got to Charlie and my house about 11. Then over to Dot and Bob's for dinner. Gosh, but my stove is beautiful (I popped popcorn on it) and the linoleum looks nice too. After dinner and dishes back over to our house and Jess started papering our living room. Dot and Bob have their electricity now - they certainly are tickled. Back over to Dot's and ate supper and did dishes. Charlie and I went to sleep on the davenport. Jess took Charlie home about 11 and I went to bed on the davenport.
March 9, 1947 (Sun)
I woke up about a quarter after six, but didn't get up till a quarter of seven. After breakfast, Jess went back to do some more papering. Bob took Margaret, Midge and I over about 10:30. Jess had finished the papering the living-room. Margaret and I washed the woodwork. Back to Dot's for dinner. Charlie, Jess, Midge and I went back. Mr. and Mrs. Christman, Harriet and Bud were over awhile. Margaret, Dot and boys came over a little later. I finished washing windows in the living-room and mopped the floor. Jess finished the small bedroom. I burned my hand. We went back to Dot's for supper - left about 10 for home - I got to bed about 11:30.
March 10, 1947 (Mon)
Back to work again. Its beginning to get a little warmer. We were very busy again today. At noon Evie, Anna May, Helen, Kathleen and I ate lunch in snack bar. Went down to Cron - Leone, but my picture wasn't ready, then to Hillman's. The heel broke on my shoe again. About 1:30 I cracked my head on the Kotex dispenser in restroom and just about knocked myself out - it bled and bled and had blood all over my head - had nurse and doctor both - had a terrific headache. Mom and Dad picked me up after work. Charlie didn't get here till past 7:30. We dashed out to Garmiere's - paid for rest of refrigerator - back to take instructions - only have 2 more lessons to go. Charlie left about 11.
March 11, 1947 (Tues)
Smells like Spring might be coming. Busy again today. Saw a wreck on the way to work - car turned over on its side. At noon Evie, Anna May, Helen and I ate lunch in snack bar. Evie and I went down to Boston Furniture Co. They are going to send over living-room suite, tilt-back chair, interspring mattress and linoleum (which I bought today for dining-room - green with yellow and pink flowers) After work I met Lucile at Wolf and D's - bought Mother a couple pair of nylons and talked to Wanda. We went to Paris, paid $5.00 on Harriets dress. Then to Howards and got shower invitations for Betty's baby shower. Stopped and had a phosphate and made plans for the shower. Was almost 7 when I got home. Its only a little after 9 but I'm going to bed.
March 12, 1947 (Wed)
Gosh, but it is beginning to get warm - can begin to smell Spring. We were very busy today. Red Cross Drive is beginning. At noon Evie, Helen and I ate lunch in the snack bar. I went down with Evie and she bought her Easter dress - started looking for a pair of shoes. After work Evie and I went downtown and I bought a large silver and black button for my new black coat and got the cutest pair of brown shoes. This evening Mother and Dad went to the show and I washed out hose, sewed buttons on a dress and pressed it. Its 8:30 so good-night now dear Diary - earliest I've been to bed for a long time.
March 13, 1947 (Thurs)
Another fairly warm day - did rain quite a bit though. We were still busy all day - more applicants and the Red Cross Drive. At noon Anna May, Evie, Helen, Kathleen and I ate lunch in snack bar. Afterwards we went downtown - Iooked for a pattern for Mom, but couldn't get it and stopped and bought some candy for Dorothy M. After work I came straight home. Dad picked me up at Tuttles - it was raining. I got cleaned up and Mom and Dad took me down for instructions - only one more lesson to go. Charlie picked me up afterwards. We went past Howard and Ahleen's - all dark. Came home and played euchre with Mom and Dad - won all three too. Charlie left about eleven.
March 14, 1947 (Fri)
A little cooler today - darn it anyhow. Payday - we were just fairly busy. At noon Helen, Kathleen, Evie, Anna May and I ate lunch together - downtown then of course. I paid a couple dollars on my curtains at Grand Leader and Evie and I looked at hats. After work I went down to Boston Furniture Co. and paid $27.00 on the living room suite - only owe $27.00 on it now. Then to Wolf and D's and paid $7.00 on my charge. Mom washed and pressed my jerkin suit and it really looks nice - better than what the dry cleaners do. I washed my hair, took a bath and packed my suitcase. Betty Jane called. Charlie got here about 9. We ran out of gas on the way home. It was midnight before we got to Dot and Bob's.
March 15, 1947 (Sat)
I got up about 7:30. After we ate breakfast, Charlie came and about 10:30 we went over to our house. I washed all his breakfast dishes and swept the kitchen floor. Our living room suite came yesterday and it certainly does look nice. I got a little lunch for Charlie and I and we got cleaned up to go to town. We went past Ray's and Fern's and then over to Christman's new home. They went back to Ray's and Fern's with us and then finally to Wabash - Charlie and I looked for rugs and then to N. Manchester where we bought a nice rug - $59.00 - tan with rose and green flowers. We stopped to see about our wedding rings. Had to leave my diamond so they could make one like it. Took Christman's home and then Charlie and I went home. I baked a cake - not so hot. Got supper for Charlie and I, washed dishes. It was midnight before we got our rug down and then almost one when we got over to Dot and Bob's.
March 16, 1947 (Sun)
It was 8 before I got up. By the time we ate breakfast and got cleaned up. Charlie came about a quarter till ten. We went over and picked Christmans up and went to church at Huntington. Afterwards picked up a couple Journal-Gazette. My picture was in this morning's paper. Charlie and I had Dot and Bob over for dinner. I used my good dishes - pretty good dinner too. We had just finished eating when who comes but Betty and Erv. They stayed all afternoon - liked our house very well. Dot and I did dishes. Betty and Erv left about 5. We took Bob and Dot home and Charlie did chores while I read a book he gave me - very interesting. We left about 9 - home about 10. We talked to Mom awhile. Charlie left a little after eleven.
March 17, 1947 (Mon)
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Started out to be a nice day, but rained and snowed. We were very busy today - still Red Cross. I do believe I am catching a honey of a cold. At noon Evie, Anna May, Kathleen, Helen and I ate lunch together. We went to Grand Leader's and I got a very nice lace tablecloth - a second for only $2.99. This afternoon I came straight home from work. Ate supper, did dishes and got cleaned up. Jess took me down to take instructions. Charlie met me there. This was my last lesson. Father Manoski said I should call him next Monday to find out when I will be baptized. I will take my first communion Easter Sunday. We went over to Howard and Ahleen's for a little while - then stopped and ate malts. Got home about 10. Charlie put *************** - he left about 11.

March 18, 1947 (Tues)
A nice day today. I felt rotten today, but went to work anyway. My head ached, my nose ran and my eyes watered. At noon Evie, Anna May, Helen, Kathleen and I ate lunch in the snack bar. I met Mother downtown. We looked at curtain material to put ruffles on my new living room curtains. After work I went down to Cron-Leone Studio to pick up my picture. I wasn't satisfied so they are going to try to fix it. I didn't feel a bit good this evening so went to bed pretty early. Mother gave me a quinine pill, some hot lemonade and nose drops up my nose. That certainly should either kill or cure.
March 19, 1947 (Wed)
Since I felt so bad yesterday, I didn't go to work today. It was after 8 when I got up. I didn't do too much of anything all day. This morning Mother cut my drapery material out. We had the boys over here while Margaret and Midge went to town. After lunch Mom and I did dishes. I put the hem in my pink dress. Harriet called. She was in town. She got her dress and came out on the bus. Mom and I picked her up on the way home from busline. She was here for supper and then we did dishes. Mom and Dad took Harriet to catch her 6:30 bus. I stayed here and put the buttonhole in my black coat. Its getting close to 9 so think I'll hit the hay.
March 20, 1947 (Thurs)
Rather a nice day today. I went back to work today. We were still very busy. At noon just Evie, Helen and I ate lunch together. We just sat and talked. Helen is worried about being pregnant - she's a day overdue. She's certainly tickles me. My cold was much better today, but still have the sniffles. After work I came straight home. Mother had fixed the ruffles on my curtains and we made my drapes. I got my picture from Journal-Gazette and it is only a 2 x 3 instead of the 4 x 6 which I paid for. Boy, I'm going back to Cron-Leone Studio again. Charlie called me this evening. Mostly just to talk. Margaret and Jess are going down to our house next weekend. Well, its amost 10 so good-night.

End of Month
Now March is gone and I am one more month closer to being a married woman. The month I have been looking forward to (for ages it seems) and to think tomorrow will be here. March has been a good month - although a cold one, but April is the month for this year - this one belongs to Charlie and I. I have looked forward each coming month - wondering what it will hold, but never with the anticipation that I am looking forward to April. I only hope the first 26 days go very fast.
