Japs sign surrender document. No work today - no more Saturday work at all. Mother and Dad left for Ky. early this morning with Roy and Alma Gross. I got sick this morning about 8:30. The pills didn't help so the doctor came out and gave me a shot - I felt better then. In the afternoon I read and slept. I read Life, Seventeen and Colliers Magazines and the book " Frenchman's Creek". It was very good. I got a postcard from Job's Daughters telling about the meetings this coming year. Mrs. Christman called this morning and said she got a letter from Bob dated Aug. 10th and he was going to come home on an airplane and there were only 35 more ahead of him. In the evening Wanda came to spend the night. Ray Christman (home on furlough) and his girl, Fern, and Charlie and his girl, Norma, were here for quite awhile. It was about 11 before I went to sleep.

September 2, 1945 (Sun)

V-J Day. Pres. Truman declared today V-J Day. I woke up about 8:30 and read the funnies in bed. After eating breakfast, we spent most of the rest of the morning looking at pictures. I called Betty this morning to find out what time we were going to the show. I got cleaned up then, we ate dinner and washed dishes and I left about 1. Betty got on the same bus I did and we met Helen Soles downtown. We went to the Emboyd and saw "Out of This World" with Eddie Brucken and Diana Lynn. It was very good. Afterwards we went to the Hobby House and had a chocolate soda and hamburger. Then we went to Walgreens and had a grilled cheese and lime phosphate. I got home about 6. I worte letters to Dwight and Jackie and sent for a dress pattern. I went to bed about 11.

September 3, 1945 (Mon)

Today is Labor Day and so no work. I got up about 8:30 - Dot had been up since 5:30 - she couldn't sleep. I did very very little today. This morning Dot and I straightened the house up a little and I ironed a dress and blouse. I also sewed on the dress I'm making for awhile. After we ate and did dishes Dorothy got cleaned up to go over to some lady's house. She left about 2. I read Seventeen magazine and played solitaire and cleaned out a dresser drawer until Mom and Dad came home about 6 - Mom and Dad went away for the evening. I typed a stencil for Dot - she's secretary for bowling leagues and then she went to stay all night at Wanda's. I went to bed about 9

September 4, 1945 (Tues)

My last day at work. I wrote a letter to Dwight and started one to Pauline. I didn't do much work today. I talked most of the time - in fact I think I only typed 30 cards. Those kids had me make out a will leaving them something of mine up there. Phyllis wasn't here today. I said good-bye to everybody and went over to the employment office about 3:30. I just wanted to turn my badge in and get my slips ok to have Betty get my money, but didn't get out of there till 4:20. I went downtown, mailed the record to Jackie and bought a new pink blouse (buttons down the back) and a pair of brown moccasins. I got home about 6 - washed my hair - Ray, Fern, Ray's cousin (a sailor) Don and his wife came over this evening. Were here till 11. Took my shower and went to bed then.

September 5, 1945 (Wed)

School days are here again. I got up about 7 - left at a quarter of 8 - walked to the busline with Enid Vood. Got to school about 8. I'm in dear old Mertes homeroom - sit in a double desk with Oddra. It seemed good to see all the kids again. Here's my schedule - English 7 - Miss Huffman - 1st, Cl. Practice 2 - Mrs. Bridges - 2nd, P.E. F-3 - Miss Waterson - 3rd, Economics - Mr.Young - 4th, Shhd. - Mrs. Chapman - 6th and Typing - Mrs. Chapman - 7th. Not too bad. Betty's in all my classes, but English. Janet, Nancy and I went over to Betty's at noon, came back to school about 1 and got our lockers. They are way back in a cubby hole and I don't like it back there, but I guess I'll have to get used to it. I really missed Jackie today. I got home about 2 this afternoon. I called Penny. Marjorie, Dot and I walked over to Curdes (?) store. I had to read a short story and prepare a 3 minute talk on it for English. Its about ten now.

September 6, 1945 (Thurs)

My first full day this school year. I got to school about 5 after 8. Put my mirror back up in my locker. Another girl gave on the same short story I had so I just had to comment on it. Pat Smith and I typed envelopes in Cl. Practice. Betty and I went to the library 3rd period. We have to read a newspaper article for Economics. I ate lunch with Oddra and Pat in the cafeteria. Shhd. 6th - we were assigned 10 pages. We just typed in typing. I went into the library and helped Miss Shroyer till 4. I met Penny downtown then at 4:30 and shopped with her till 5:30. Saw Marge Bill downtown. Penny and I got home about 6 - Dot had supper ready. While I did my homework, Dot and Penny worked the Ouija Board. I got to bed about 10:00.

September 7, 1945 (Fri)

I got to school about 8. I got up when Penny did at a quarter of six. I ironed a dress before I went to school. Seniors had a meeting in the auditorium right after homeroom about senior pictures and having color in Legend. Didn't do anything in English, Mr. Runes showed us how to type and run a stencil. Betty and I were late 3rd so we went to Library - 4th just listened to kids giving their news items. Pat and I went out to Sandy's and got our lunch - ate with Anna May, Kathleen M. and Barbara W. along the river bank. Took a little dictation in Shhd. and typed sentences in typing. I got a letter from Dwight dated Aug. 27 and he says he may get home next July. We got to the lake about 11. Dot, Alma and I took a walk along the lake. I laid out in the sun for awhile. We had fish for dinner. (Nach!). After dinner Alma, Dot, Mom and I played some 500 rummy. Then we went fishing - Dot and I in one boat - Alma and Mom in the other - it rained while we were on the lake and I didn't catch a single fish! Not even one to throw back. We were out for a couple hours. We ate a little supper, read a little then Dot and I made our beds up and went to sleep about 9:30.

September 9, 1945 (Sun)

Mom, Dad and Alma went fishing about 6, but I didn't wake up till 8. After they came in about 9, we ate breakfast and did the dishes. I got ready then to go swimming. I took the boat down there and everybody in our cottage came down to the beach. Dot and I gave SuSu a bath there. The swimming wasn't too good. Dot and I laid in the sun for quite awhile - then I took the boat out on the lake. After I came back we sat around and talked to other people, then we rode over to 3 other lakes. We got back about 2 - ate dinner, did the dishes and packed the car. About 5 when we left for home - got home about 6. September 10, 1945 (Mon)

Got up at a quarter of 7. I got to school about 8 since I had to work in the library during homeroom. I didn't have a newspaper short story for English, but she didn't say anything. Betty G. is one of the squad leaders in Phys. Fit - I hope I get on her squad now. We and Evelyn are the only 12 A's in there - mostly Frosh and Soph. Economics is boring - thats all I can say for it. Pat and I both brought our lunch and we ate along the river bank. Took some dictation in Shhd. and typed a little in typing. I worked in the library after school till about 4 then went to the dentist. The dentist filled 3 teeth - $6.50. I got home about 6 - ate soup. Dot and Wanda came then - my fudge turned out very good. Wanda stayed for dinner then I started typing - I did typing for Economics, typing for Dot (her bowling again), typing for Clerical Practice and typing for English. Dot went over to Wanda's again. Wanda is by herself this week. I did take time out from my typing to wash out my pink blouse, wash my hair and take a shower. Believe it or not the dry cleaning finally came.
