I got up about 9. I didn't do much of anything this morning. I did bake a peach pie - my first pie. After dinner Mother and I did dishes. In the afternoon I worked a jigsaw puzzle. I got cleaned up then. Mother and I went to the drugstore and got some ice cream so we had peach pie and ice cream for supper. Mother and Dad went away - over to Roy and Lavon's. Charlie came about 8. He wanted to go see "O.S.S." at the Paramount with Alan Ladd and Geraldine Fitzgerald - very good. Better then the one last night. We ate peach pie and ice cream - Charlie said my pie was very good. We got home from show about 1:30. He left about a quarter of one. It was about one when I got to bed.
September 2, 1946 (Mon)
Labor Day so no work - Mother got me up at 7:30. I was so sleepy. This morning I helped Mother and Margaret wash. I made the meatloaf and peeled potatoes for dinner. I'll learn to cook yet. Dad gave SuSu her bath today and I combed her hair then. Mother and I did dishes and they finished getting ready and left about 2:30 for the lake. I palyed solitaire this afternoon and listened to the radio. I did a little ironing today too. The kids were over quite a bit. I wrote a letter to Betty Jane. I spent the rest of the evening embroidering and listening to the radio. Its a quarter till ten and I am tired so am going to bed pronto.
September 3, 1946 (Tues)
Back to work. Rather chilly today. Dorothy wasn't at work today and we started 5 new girls so I was pretty busy all day. Miss McCrory was back from her vacation. Evie and I ate lunch in snack bar - then went downtown. Evie went with me after work to New Michigan furniture store and to Kramer's to see about having that living room suite reupholstered. It will probably cost over $200 for the 3 pieces. I'll have to see what Charlie says. I got home about 6. Margaret and kids were over for awhile. I dampened a few clothes and then ironed some of mine to wear to work tomorrow. I just listened to the radio and embroidered for awhile. Its twenty till ten now so night, dear diary.
September 4, 1946 (Wed)
A pretty warm day. Miss McCrory wasn't at work and neither was Dorothy - just Miss O'Rourke and I. I started menustrating about 11 and didn't feel too good, but Miss O'Rourke had a Salary Committee meeting and I couldn't go home. I felt a little better at noon so stayed. Felt terrible then and finally got home about 2. Dr. Conley couldn't come till after office hours - I was feeling better by then so he didn't come out. I ate some soup for supper and did the dishes. I got cleaned up then. Ahleen called - asked about price for having the furniture reupholstered. I was asleep on davenport when Charlie came at 9. I didn't feel like doing anything so we just sat and talked and made some cocoa. It was after one when he left.
September 5, 1946 (Thurs)
I got up at 6:30 and started to get ready for work, but just didn't feel good so went back to bed. Margaret called LL and told them I wouldn't be in. A warm day. Midge and I laid out in the yard and soaked in some sunshine. Mrs. Whitney loaned me 4 jigsaw puzzles so I worked a couple of those. This afternoon I ironed, dusted and ran the sweeper. Evelyn called to see how felt. I thought Betty Jane might come out this morning, but she didn't. I packed my suitcase and Lavon and kids picked it up. I made some fudge for Midge this afternoon. Margaret, Jess and kids went to Lake for evening. I did dishes, washed my hair and took a sponge bath, listened to radio and worked jigsaw puzzles. Amost 10 now. Night.
September 6, 1946 (Fri)
Back to work again. It was rather warm - in fact very warm this afternoon. Miss McCrory wasn't in again today. I worked pretty hard - had to make up for yesterday. Evie and I ate lunch in snack bar and then went downtown. Ray, LaVon, Raymie and Elaine Spriestersbach picked me up at a quarter till five. We got to Long Lake about a quarter after. Mother, Dad and SuSu were glad to see us. I put on shorts right away and then we ate supper. Raymie and I went fishing, but didn't catch a thing. Oh yes, Raymie caught one. After dark Raymie and I fished off shore for catfish, but too many bugs for me. Mother, Dad, Ray and LaVon played euchre till late and then I went to bed.
September 7, 1946 (Sat)
I woke up about 7 - got up about 7:30. After breakfast and dishes Susie (Elaine) and I went roaming in the woods hunting wood for wiener bake this evening. I got into some jiggers then. I took a boat and sat in the middle of the lake. Got a little sunburn and tan too. We were in charge of the popstand for awhile - more fun. I went to sleep while Mom and LaVon did dinner dishes. This afternoon Susie and I rode around the lake and put cots up outside and tried to sleep but had little luck. Mother and I went fishing, but then it started to pour so came in. We really had quite a storm so didn't have our wiener roast. This evening we all played euchre, and finally got to bed about midnight.
September 8, 1946 (Sun)
I got up about 8 and Charlie (much to my surprise) got here about 8:30. After breakfast and dishes Charlie and I went boatriding. It was very foggy this morning but cleared up about 10. That's only the second time Charlie has been in a boat or rowing. We were on the lake about an hour. When we came in Charlie stepped in lake and got one pant leg all wet. We just took pictures, ate dinner, packed up and got cleaned up. We left for home about 4. After we got back in town Charlie and I had sodas. I got a letter from Betty Morris yesterday. I drove around for awhile. After supper and dishes Charlie and I just sat and talked. It was after eleven when Charlie left. About 11:30 when I got to bed.

A pretty nice day - kinda windy though. Another hard working day. Started quite a few girls again today. Miss McCrory was in. Evie Lou and I ate lunch in the snack bar and then downtown. I went down to the bank and drew $50 out. I hated to do that, but had to. I was practically going around in circles by the time the day was over with. After work Evelyn went with me to the Boston Furniture Store where I paid $50.00 on our living room suite. Evie like it a lot, too. We went down to dry cleaners where Kathleen Brenizer worked and then home. This evening I helped Mother and Dad can corn and I did part of the ironing. Got a dress ready to work. Put my hair up and now it is after 9:30. Night, diary.
September 12, 1946 (Thurs)
Pretty chilly and windy today. All of us were at work today. We still had a lot of work, but things began to slack off a little this afternoon. At noon Evie and I ate lunch in snack bar and went to Wolf and D's and I bought a brown hat - felt and velvet - very cute - only $2.98. After work Anna May and I stopped at Barbara Widdifield's room (she's training at Methodist) and then came home. I was just eating my supper when Dot came in the door. The Inca went back to work and so Dot is going to work a few weeks so she will get her vacation and also $75 bonus. This evening we mostly talked. Pudge called me - I'm going to try and get her a double date with someone from N. Manchester. Its after 10 now - must get my beauty sleep you know!
Methodist was one of the hospitals in Fort Wayne. When they built a new one, it became Parkview Memorial. --Georgia Hudson

A little chilly today. Dorothy Murphy wasn't in to work today. So, of course, we were busy then. Payday today. At noon Evie and I went to Oriental Gardens for a chop suey dinner, but it was terrible so we finally left there, went to a drugstore and had pie ala mode. I went downtown again after work and paid off my bills at Wolf and D's and at Paris. Don't owe a thing now outside of the living room suite. Dorothy had already left for N. Manchester when I got home. I washed my hair and went over to Margaret and Jess's and took care of the kids about 6:30. After I got them all in bed I embroidered and listened to the radio till 9:30. They got home about 1:30.
