From the notes of Dr. Richard Wanger.
(cont. from page 38)
Of all the half demon breeds, the Faust bloodline is the most interesting and problematic. It began in the 1500s, in Germany, with a Dr. Johann Faust. Legend says he made a deal with a demon he had summoned: his soul, in a set number of years, in exchange for knowledge and power. Much to Johann's surprise, instead of simply receiving these things, he got a "transfusion" of demon blood. It made him, in effect, part demon. He then traveled Europe, gaining both intrigue and disdain for the powers he blatantly displayed. It was also at this time he took Cristoph Wagner as his disciple, and after Johann's very violent and unexplained death, his only son, Hans, in Cristoph's care. Thus began the long tradition of the interdependence that the Faust and Wagner families share.
Now, all Faust share common traits: great proficiency in the magic arts, an alter “demon” form which varies from one descendent to the next, a very strong impulse to sire at least one heir, and the tendency for dying very violent, short and most times mystical deaths thereafter. This is when the connection between the Fausts and the Wagners comes most noticeable into play. One could say it was the solemn duty of the Wagners to take custody of the living heir, and raise it until such time as it could begin the rite of passage through which all Faust must complete. Around the age of 17 (although this does vary ), they are confronted by a true demon, and taken to Hell. They must dwell there for a period of time, until they can pass through the different levels there. There have been cases of this taking as little as 7 months, and as long as 11 years. Upon completion they come into the full scope of their powers, and return to this realm.
Concerning the latest Faust, Karen. She came to my wife Crystal and I at the age of 14 months. Her parents were Patricia and Victor, the former being the inheritor of the bloodline. To my dismay, they were missing and presumed dead shortly thereafter. We took Karen, and raised her along with our son Kurt. I found her to be, for the most part, a normal child. She did display early signs of depression, though also possessed of an incredible amount of inner strength. She would often become aggressive when even slightly provoked, though she never acted out of spite. A somewhat lonely child, she found it difficult to make new friends, which would further lead to aggravation and depression. What friends she made, she became fiercely protective of. It was not uncommon for her to be engaged in physical disputes on behalf of someone else, my son Kurt included. As she entered her teenage years, her attitude further progressed into rebellion from most forms of authority, save for us, her surrogate parents. It was during this time she found herself with becoming increasing popular with the group of counter culture teens. At the age of 17, she began her rite of passage.
There is basically no information that could be obtained about what Karen went through at this period. What is known is that it took her approximately 47 months to traverse the levels of hell. An interesting note, Karen seemed to suffer a psychotic break upon returning, and has blocked out her memories of that time. In her mind, she believes that she was slumming around Southern California for 4 years. To my knowledge, this has never occurred before, this type of repression. It has been 2 years since her return, and she seems to function normally. She lives in Pasadena, rooming with her "brother" Kurt. They are both wrestlers in the indie fed Underworld Alliance Wrestling. Karen also serves as a bartender for the Darkroom, a counter culture club located in Los Angeles. I have yet to obtain knowledge of her displaying any of her Faust-ian traits. It is unknown if they will ever surface.
