Jeff looked at her, "Come on, let's go get something to eat." Ginger looked
at him and smiled, "are you always<italic<< hungry?" Jeff took Gingers hand
and headed for the stairs...
"Linda...Linda..." Anne kept saying.
Linda was looking over the sink out the window. She was in deep thought...
"Yes mother?" Linda said still looking out the window.
"Linda, help me make Ginger some tea." Anne was still cleaning up after
hurricane Jeff blew through her pantry. "Sure mother." Linda went to the
stove and began to boil some water. Jeff and Ginger came into the kitchen.
Anne immediatly smiled and said, "Hi, how are you feeling? I have Linda
making you some tea." Ginger shook her head and answered politely, "Thank
you, but you really don't have t--" Before she could finish Anne said, "Oh it
is no problem, we want to..."
Ginger looked at Linda, "Are you ok Linda?" Looking a little shocked Linda
replied, "Sure I am, I should be asking you<italics<< that question." Linda
smiled and walked out onto the porch. Jeff started to go after her but
Ginger stopped him and walked out to see what was wrong. "...It was my
fault," Linda said when she heard Ginger coming. "Oh, Linda, no...it wasn't
your fault..." Ginger said sympathetically, "If I had just..." before she
could finish Ginger sat down next to her and started talking, "Linda...you
are my best friend, we have been through a lot..." Ginger paused and smiled,
"Re-remember when we stole your dad's gin and got drunk and I threw up in Mrs
Senif's garden?" Linda laughed and nodded her head, "Well, you blamed
youself for that, you didn't force me to drink, actually I was thankful you
held my hair!...Linda you-you put things that you can't control on yourself,
it wasn't your fault...besides..." Ginger smiled, "Did I hear you say
something about," she paused, "Bill?" Linda looked away, "Oh, Ginger."
Ginger giggled, "See I told you, you were in love with him." Linda glared at
her, "I am not, nor was I ever in love with him! I am with Phil now."
Ginger looked away but kept Linda in the corner of her eye, "Oh yes...Phil.
How's that goin? I-I mean did he <italic<< propose marriage to you?" They
both laughed and Linda tried to change the subject, "Come on Ginger, we'd
better get Jeff something to eat before he eats the breadbox..." They both
laughed again and walked inside still chatting.

Anne saw them walk in, "Oh good...Ginger your tea is ready." Ginger smiled,
"Thank you. Umm...what are these?" Ginger said pointing to a plate on the
counter. Jeff looked at her, "What do ya mean what are those, those are your
waffles!" Ginger took a sip of her tea to keep from laughing, "oh...they
look," she pauses and tries to think of a word to sum it up, "great..."
well, Mrs. happy homemaker, you think you can do better? before he let her
answer he quickly said, "I have to run some errands. Ginger, will you come
with me?" She put her tea down and said, "sure." Jeff and Ginger walked out
the door.
