This is an alternate that goes through the pregancy scare. It's my
first story and I didn't really work on these two chapters too much
so it's probably crappy but it's only explaining things you already
know. It won't win the pulitzer but hey what can you do? I hope
everyone likes it.....

"Jeff, how did you do in your game? Anne asked cheerfully.

"We lost, what do ya think happened with the lousy team I play on."
Jeff replied a little bit harshly. He didn't want to upset his mother
but he couldn't be cheerful with Hank overseas. It didn't matter if
his team was undefeated he would still feel down in the dumps. Not
only were they brothers but they drank out of the same bottle...

"Well I'm sure you did your best. Hank would be proud." She said
beaming from ear to ear.

"Thanks mom but I gotta go home and change now, bye." With that he
was out the door before she could even get a word in edge wise. He
knew his mom was going through a tough time too but he just had to
get outta there. Jeff knew that if Hank was home and safe he wouldn't
be in this slump he was having. Well at least baseball kept his mind
off of...

"Jeff is that you?" He turned around to see Sarah on their porch
swing clutching Hank's old leather jacket. Her face was tear stained.
Oh great, he hated to see a woman cry. He decided to sit and talk to
her since she obviously wanted company.

"Yeah it's me, I just came home to change from my game."

She scooted over giving him space to sit down.
"I was just thinking of Hank and how he loved this jacket. That's all
I do anymore, wait for his letters and think about him."

Jeff understood perfectly. He forgot about Sarah. She must be beside
herself too. His mom invited her to dinner practically everyday since
Hank left, even though they acted so indifferent towards each other.
He never understood why his mom felt so uncomfortable with her.

They sat on the swing for what seemed like years.

"Do you wanna go for a walk?" He suggested.
"Sure."
So he forgot about his shower and laid his glove on the swing.
He followed her towards the park. They talked and found themselves
enjoying each other's company.

Each day they would follow the same pattern: walking through the park
reminiscing about Hank.

"Gee he's cute in jeans." Sarah said aloud as she was pondering on
what to wear that day. Lately she'd barely been thinking about Hank
and found her mind wandering about Jeff. Sure it was wrong having
these thoughts but what was she to do? She couldn't help it. She
decided that this was the day to put the moves on him. She put on the
short beige dress that was Hank's favorite and headed out the door to
meet Jeff in the park.

Jeff sat on the bench waiting nervously for Sarah. He couldn't say
that he had a thing for her but he did look forward to seeing her
everyday. Maybe he did have a crush on her. No, he thought. she was
Hank's girl. He kept repeating this over and over again.

"Hi, Jeff" Sarah said flirtatiously.
He looked up startled..
"Oh hi." He looked her up and down. She was a looker that's for sure.
Gee, what if she could tell what he's thinking? He looked shyly back
at the ground.
She sat next to him inching closer and closer till the only way they
could get any closer was if she jumped on top of him.
"You know what I was thinking Jeff? I was thinking that we should go
see a movie sometime."
"A movie?"
"Yeah of course. We'd have to be secret about it. If people saw us
together at a movie what would they think?" She smiled suggestively.

Uh oh. What was she asking? Was she asking him out? Women were just
screwy. "Um, okay.." He replied smiling back at her.
"Aces! I'll decide on a movie and then call you so you'll know when
to meet me at the theater." She jumped up and left a dumbstruck Jeff
watching her leave.
