Reading Intervention Program Training

Intervention staff from Memorial, Brookside and Woodland schools were among approximately ninety five teachers from several different school systems to attend the "Early Success" and "Soar to Success" Intervention Institutes hosted by the Milford School System.

The three day training session conducted by trainers from the Houghton Mifflin Company encouraged teachers to understand and apply the concepts of intervention presently being implemented in the Milford Public Schools.

Balanced Literacy Training

Fifty, K-4 classroom teachers, Special Needs and Title I staff  members from Brookside, Memorial and Woodland participated in Guided Reading summer graduate courses.

The goal was to examine the powerful teaching strategies of Guided Reading and explore the theoretical principles which support it.

Staff participants learned first hand the various instructional strategies of a balanced literacy program by reflecting on discoveries made as they observed Ms. Kathie Heap model a Guided Reading and Interactive Writing lesson.

Each participant gained a clearer understanding of what a  Balanced Literacy Program looks like in a primary and elementary classroom.
