The Passion Of Love
by Al Saunders
"It burns like a blazing fire, like a mighty flame" (Song of Solomon
8:6b, NIV).
Let me remind you again about the difference between passion and
lust: Lust: Is the selfish use of another for one's own pleasure. It knows
nothing about love and affection; makes no commitment; and assumes no responsibility
for either the relationship or the feelings and well-being of the other
person.
Passion: Is totally unselfish. It is rooted in love and affection;
makes a lifetime commitment; and assumes responsibility for meeting the
loved one's needs. Passion must contain surrender to be authentic. Furthermore,
passion is expressed in both sexual and non-sexual ways.
True passion, if fanned properly, should burn evermore brightly as
you proceed through all the seasons of your marriage -- honeymoon, child-bearing,
child-rearing, child-launching, and the empty nest. In reality, if it is
nurtured properly, the passion in your relationship should really "burn
like a blazing fire" into full maturity as you enter and proceed through
the empty nest years.
What stage is your marriage going through right now? Wherever you
are -- nurture and fan the flame of passion, give it the care and priority
it deserves.
