Spirit-Directed Living
George Fessler
***************************************
If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit. Let
us not
become conceited, competing against one another, envying one another"
(Galatians 5:25-26, NRSV).

Paul wants us to realize that since we have been "made alive" by
the Spirit,
we can count on the Spirit's guidance in our lives. We are to literally
"walk in the Spirit," signifying the day-by-day, step-by-step living
each of
us does in our respective social contexts. This means aligning our
lives in
those Spirit-guided activities that reflect the character of Christ
and the
truth of the gospel. Once again, this lifestyle has a social impact
-- so we
can let go of conceit, competition, and envy, which only diminish
relationships.
Prayer response: Father, this day I want to walk in the Spirit --
even if it
is only in "baby" steps. I sometimes feel clumsy in my attempts
to walk this
way. Strengthen me as I endeavor to put Jesus first in my life;
make the
chain I wear -- WWJD -- reflect more than a simple slogan but a
way of
living that keeps Jesus at the center. Come Holy Spirit, I need
you. In
Jesus' name. Amen.
