Keep on Truckin'
George Fessler
**************************************
"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we
shall reap
if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let
us do good
to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith" (Galatians
6:9-10, NKJV).
**************************************
Paul's concept of spiritual sowing is extended in this context to
include
the good we do to others. Two imperatives govern his thought: "don't
grow
weary," and "don't lose heart." Although not identical, they are
directed
against the temptations we all face to become discouraged and give
up. He
encourages us to "keep on truckin'" in all our efforts and opportunities
to
do good to everyone who enters our sphere of influence. And he particularly
notes that real charity is to be extended to the family of believers
-- our
brothers in Christ. This could issue in supportive measures financially,
of
course; but it could go beyond to simply being there, ready to be
a true
friend. We all need to give "good" to others and receive it from
others
also.
Prayer response: Father, your grace abounds in our lives in so many
ways.
You have been good to me and my family, for which I thank you at
this time.
Help me be attentive to others around me, especially my brothers
and sisters
in Christ, that I may be like you in doing good. Don't let me miss
opportunities of serving others, even on this day. Remind me that
my life is
yours and I'm called to "offer a cup of cold water" in your name.
Let me do
it joyfully and gratefully. For Jesus' sake. Amen.
