Pointing Fingers
Many Christians
seem almost surprised by the attacks on some the new initiatives President
Bush is taking, especially when dealing with faith based programs.
Why are we surprised? And, why are we so willing to think badly of
these people? Maybe , we should go a little easy on pointing fingers.
After all, are these people really that different than us? I think
not! Let me give you an example.
Have you ever been in a car with Christian
brother or sister driving the “legal” plus five or plus ten miles over
the speed limit? (Of course, I am not talking about you.) Let’s
say you are on a two lane road with the no passing line on your side.
What usually happens when you get behind someone who is actually driving
the speed limit? What kind of reaction can you expect from many of
the same people who sit next to you in church? I really don’t think
I need to describe the scene any further.
But, why would someone, especially a Christian, react
badly in that situation. Isn’t the other driver really the one who
is doing the right thing? What would happen if that other driver
had the audacity to actually drive five miles below the speed limit?
The fact is, the world rebels against righteousness.
They also rebel against God and anyone trying to do His will. And
you know what? So do we sometimes. They could do better.
But so could we.

KEY BIBLE VERSES:
Matt 7:3-5
3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye
and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to
your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time
there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank
out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck
from your brother's eye.
