Ch. 2

Yusuke sat and pondered. He now knew his feelings. He loved Hinageshi, more than Keiko. He knew he had to say something to Hinageshi, probably she felt the same way about him too. Then he heard something by his door, something very fast. It was Hiei. “Hiei…what’re you doing here?” Yusuke asked.

“I need to tell you why I left the Makai. It’s important…I already told Kurama; he said I should tell you. Well here it goes, so listen. I was staying in Mukuro’s palace and one day we were going to meet, but she didn’t show up. I walked into her garden of demon plants and saw that she was talking with a man. Then she went into a cave where Shigure was. I saw that she was mourning, she didn’t forget about him. She sensed me and turned around horrified. I gave her a look and started walking away. She chased after me but I didn’t let her hang on to me. She broke away and let me go. I have a feeling that she’ll come back someday for me. Also, I wanted to see Yukina again.”

Yusuke stood there. He hung around with Hiei and they went into the park by Kurama’s school. Finally night fell upon their town. Just as Hiei was about to leave. Hinageshi came. “Yusuke, you needed to tell me something?”

Hiei jumped into a tree to avoid being seen. “Yes, I have some thought. I feel a bit different around you. I don’t like Keiko as much anymore. Yes, she’s still my best friend. Now I’ve converted my feelings towards you.”

Hinageshi staggered back a bit. She seemed astounded, flabbergasted, and flattered, all at the same time. “I, I don’t know what to say. I love Kurama, that’s who I love. Please help me, you promised you would. I didn’t think that it would end up this way. I believe you to be a very close friend but…not this. Please forgive me.”

Then she started running back to her home. Yusuke seemed astounded and sat on a bench. Hiei jumped down and then was about to walk away when he heard. “Hinageshi! Wait!”

It was a voice of a young girl. Probably around Yusuke’s age. He turned around and saw a girl, more beautiful than anyone he had ever seen. He stared for a while and then thought…she’s…she’s just a human. Then he started running off to Kurama’s house. “May I help you…?” Yusuke asked.

“Oh yes, please! Thank you so much! You see, the girl that you were just talking to was my cousin, Hinageshi. I just arrived from America. My name’s Sakura, well, my real name is Lorena, but Hinageshi considered me as a flower. So she named me Sakura.”

She started smiling after that. Yusuke was startled by this girl, she was so happy. Maybe…she’s the one, he thought. Yusuke took her over to Hinageshi’s house and left. Yusuke now truly knew his feelings; Sakura was the one for him. He went to his house, and slept like he never slept.

Over at Kurama’s house, Hiei was still awake. “Hiei, do you feel like sleeping yet? It’s pretty late,” Kurama said.

Hiei shook his head. Kurama left the room and went to sleep. Hiei wanted to know more about that girl. She was surely different. He had no idea who she was, what her name was, and anything. He thought, I must find, Yusuke. He was the one that stayed after while I ran away. Hn, sometimes, I just can’t face girls. He sat on the railing thinking about her. He jumped to a nearby tree and slept.

Yusuke awoke early the next morning. He decided to go to school since Sakura would be there. He got dressed and slicked back his hair; he knew that she would like it since Keiko liked it. Then he left for school. On the way he met up with Hinageshi and Sakura. “Hello, Yusuke!” Sakura said.

He jogged over to them. “Hey Sakura, and Hinageshi…sorry. I don’t know what came over me.”

Hinageshi smiled and Sakura smiled too. They were so alike. Then, they met Keiko along the way. “Sakura, this is Keiko. Keiko this is Sakura,” Hinageshi said as she introduced them.

Sakura smiled did her little hello thing and started walking off. Yusuke saw a black flash and then Hiei appeared in front of him. Hiei grabbed Yusuke and pulled him away. “Who is that girl? I must know!”

“What!? Which girl? I don’t know what you’re even talking about. Please specify…geez I sound like a teacher…”

“The one close to Hinageshi. They seem like very good friends. How do they know each other?” Hiei asked.

“OH, her name is Sakura. That’s her Japanese name. Her real name is actually Lorena. She knows Hinageshi because they’re cousins. Keiko and her seem to be friends at sight…what are you thinking?”

Hiei stared at the ground. “Take me to your school today. I mean it, I’m not crazy. I just want to see how it’s like. I don’t care about the clothes, just say that I’m looking around,” Hiei said.

Yusuke nodded his head in agreement and took Hiei to his first period class. Sakura saw them and smiled towards them. “Hello, who might you be?” she asked with her lovely smile.

“I’m Hiei,” he mumbled.

Then class started and Yusuke went off to sleep. Finally it was gym and Yusuke was going to skip but Hiei pulled him along. The gym teacher was astounded at Hiei’s agility and so were the girls. He looked over at Sakura and she turned her head around. Then the lunch bell rang and Yusuke sat down and Hiei did too. Keiko, Hinageshi, and Sakura rushed over, as did Kuwabara. “Hey, it’s shorty! What are you doing here!?” Kuwabara yelled.

“Mind your own business idiot. My business here needs none of your foolishness…baka…” Hiei remarked.

Kuwabara sat down and started engaging Hinageshi in a conversation. He then turned his head and noticed Sakura. She explained that she was the cousin of Hinageshi and all. Kuwabara did his friendly thing and finally the day was over. Yusuke and Hiei left the school and Hiei noticed that someone was following them. Hiei was about to unsheathe his katana when…he saw that it was Sakura! “Hello Sakura. I was just on my way to a friend’s school, Meiou High, his name is Kurama. Want to come?”

She nodded her head and they started walking. They finally met up with Kurama. “Hello Yusuke and Hiei. Oh, who might you be?” Kurama asked.

“Sorry I didn’t introduce myself. My name is Sakura; well that’s not my real name. It’s actually Lorena, but I like Sakura a lot more,” she replied.

Kurama smiled the smile that usually got all the girls going for him but that didn’t seem to turn Sakura on. She just considered him to be a gentleman. She smiled at him and they began to talk. Hiei felt sort of jealous towards Kurama because they were speaking like friends at first site. Hiei ran away with his great speed, hoping he could see no more of Sakura talking to Kurama.

Yusuke started walking home with Sakura, and then, he turned around and kissed her. She moved so he got her ear. “What are you DOING!?” she yelled.

Sakura slapped him and ran off to her house. Yusuke sighed and knew he did the wrong move. Right when they became good friends, he just had to ruin it. He started walking towards his house and he felt someone grab at his arm. “Yusuke, I can’t believe you really did it. I can’t believe it!”

Yusuke quickly turned around and saw Keiko crying and holding his arm. “I can’t believe it Yusuke! Why!? Why did you do it!?” she asked.

“Keiko…” Yusuke was speechless. He didn’t know what to say. There he was standing there with the girl that had brought him back to life. Now, he loved someone else that didn’t bring him back to life, but just met. Even though Yusuke didn’t know, Hiei had followed him and was watching the whole thing. He scoffed and started walking away, but then Kurama came by. He grabbed Hiei’s arm to take him back but saw Yusuke standing there, like a limp tree. “Yusuke! Yusuke! Are you alright!?” He yelled.

Yusuke looked over at Kurama and waved gloomily. Kurama ran over to help while not noticing that Hiei had slipped away. Hiei had run back to Kurama’s house to think. He wanted to think about who Sakura liked. The truth was that she had slapped Yusuke after he kissed her, but that could be some kind of affection. He thought of all this quietly and Kurama entered the house. “Kurama! What happened?”

Kurama looked rather astounded at Hiei’s eagerness to care. Then Hiei suddenly came back to himself and murmured, “Why should I care? It’s human stuff and problems.”

Kurama smiled because he knew that Hiei really cared, deep inside of him. Yusuke was sitting with Keiko at the coffee table in his house. Keiko and he were talking some things out. Keiko smiled and left his house. While she was leaving she said, “I expect you to be in school tomorrow, or I will consider you as a lying thief.”

With that she turned around and smiled, then closed the door behind her. Yusuke sighed and decided to go to bed. He had to go to school the next day. He still loved Keiko, as a best friend. He didn’t want that relationship to break. So he got into bed and slept.

The next morning, Yusuke awoke to a smell of toast and eggs. Who’s cooking, he thought. Slowly, he crawled out of bed to see who was in the kitchen. As he walked closer, the smell grew stronger, and it was a good smell. As he went in he saw brown hair and it was…Sakura. Yusuke cried in surprise, “Sakura!?”

Sakura was so shocked that she turned around so fast that she knocked over some boiling hot water. She screamed in pain as the water spilled onto her hand and arm. Yusuke ran over to look at her wound. “Where’d you get burnt? Let me see,” he said.

Sakura extended her arm where she was hurt by the boiling hot water. He walked over to a medicine cabinet to take out some bandages. The he started bandaging her. They talked (I decided to cook for you to say sorry etc.), but did not notice that someone was looking in on them. Hiei was standing by the window watching their every move. He had followed Sakura from her house and watched her during the night, while she was asleep. He wanted to protect her just as he protected Yukina. He slowly walked away as he saw Sakura getting Yusuke his food. He didn’t walk far until, “Hiei, is that you?”

Hiei turned around and saw Sakura standing there with a coat in her hands. Her eyes are like blue pools of water, Hiei thought. She smiled happily and said, “Why are you here? I thought that you would be in park or something, most likely in a tree.”

Hiei shook his head, sort of like a child. Sakura smiled, but sadly for her, she did not know Hiei that well. “Hiei, you’re sort of like a child, kind of cute too.”

Hiei, without thinking, unsheathed his katana and stuck it to her throat. He could feel her pulse and breathing rate. Then he put it down and stuck it back in his sheath. “One thing you should know never upset me.”

Sakura was shocked and yelled after him. He didn’t turn back, or even make a remark. She stood along on the road, thinking if she should chase after him. “Sakura? What are you doing out here?” Hinageshi asked, “Come in, or you may get a cold.”

Slowly, Sakura walked into the house looking around for any possible signs of Hiei and just stepped in. Hiei, seeing that she had went in, started walking back but bumped into Kurama once more. “Hiei, what are you doing here? I thought you would be in the park. By the way, I think you’ve been hanging out here more than a park.”

“I came here just because I wanted to. It’s none of your business. I want to get out of the park sometimes. You don’t look too innocent yourself, how come you’re here?” Hiei remarked. Kurama smiled and told Hiei to go on home.

Yusuke started walking to school. He didn’t know what to say when he met up with Keiko. They had a long talk the other night, but that doesn’t mean that she forgave him. He sighed and heard someone call his name. It was Hinageshi and Sakura. Then he saw Keiko up ahead of him. Keiko frowned when she saw Sakura walking behind him. “Yusuke, hello!” Keiko called out to him.

Yusuke waved his hand just to say that he heard her call out to him. Then Hinageshi and Sakura did the same behind him. Why am I so popular, he thought? He smiled and waved at them too. Keiko frowned once more and as he got to the entrance he avoided them all. When Kuwabara walked up behind him he was about to throw a punch. “Whoa Urameshi, what’s your problem? Don’t be throwing punches in my face when I’m trying to be friendly.”

Yusuke sighed and gave his apologies. Then he told Kuwabara the whole story about his kiss for Sakura and Keiko getting mad at him. Kuwabara listened carefully and started laughing. “Urameshi, I don’t see why you’re getting all worked up. I would love having girls fall for me and follow me around,” and in a low whisper, “especially Hinageshi. I don’t know what I’d do without her. She’s probably the best!”

Yusuke smiled for his friend, and then he felt a soft spot in his heart once more. It wasn’t for Keiko or Sakura. It was for Hinageshi once more. He sighed again and saw something by the window. Hiei, he thought. He smiled and went on with the day. As he was walking past the girl’s gym class, he saw Sakura playing basketball. She was fairly good. Hinageshi was on the opposing team but she was really good. He knew that Keiko was athletic, but Hinageshi was probably faster than she was. He saw Keiko run and try to hit the ball down but didn’t succeed. He smiled, for now he knew that Hinageshi was perfect for him. Then he felt someone tug at his ear; he knew at once that it was Takanakae. “Yusuke, why aren’t you in gym class right now? Go at once!” he yelled.

Yusuke started walking and rubbing his ear at the same time. He wasn’t heading for gym though; he was heading for the roof top. Finally school let out, but Yusuke was still sleeping on the roof top. Sakura went to the entrance gate alone again because Hinageshi had to do something with Keiko. Sakura sighed and hoped that she could be good friends with Keiko. Then she felt someone grab her arm. “Come with me.” It was Hiei.

Sakura tried to yell for help but Hiei clasped her mouth shut with his hand and started dragging her away. Yusuke felt something odd in the air so he looked down from the roof and saw Sakura and Hiei. Damn! He thought. He started running and was confronted by Keiko. He saw Hiei and Sakura get farther away so he sighed and pushed Keiko out of the way.

Hiei took Sakura into a dark alleyway. Then he let go of her hand which was a really big mistake. She slapped him as hard as she could. “HOW DARE YOU! I can’t believe you did that! You will never do that again to me! Understand?” she yelled towards him.

He was slightly surprised and then put looked at the ground. “I told you, never upset me. I may have to slit your throat if you keep speaking like this. I am NOT a little child! I wanted to speak with you and you just- just slapped me! I should be the one yelling at you…but I’d rather not.”

He looked down at the ground once more. Sakura was shivering with anger. “What!? Usually people will take it as a compliment if they are called a child. They would like to feel young. I think I would be the one yelling because I don’t think it’s polite that someone takes your arm really tight and clasps your mouth shut. That’s just- just…” She stopped speaking and lifted up her hand to slap him.

Hiei turned around and grabbed her hand just in time. “Stop,” he said calmly. He put her hand down while their hands were still together. He wasn’t planning to let go until he had his say. Sadly he was just starting but someone interrupted.

“What’s-what’s going on?” Yusuke said.

Sakura and Hiei turned around to see Yusuke standing there. “Uh, what do you mean Yusuke?” Sakura asked.

He pointed to their hands, “That, for starters.”

Sakura and Hiei both looked down and saw that they were holding hands in a tight bond. They blushed and immediately jumped away from each other. Hiei did a much higher jump to get away. Sakura looked up in the sky for any trace of him. She said Hiei softly to herself but slowly. Then she started walking away. She didn't even talk to Yusuke. “Hey are you going to be alright?” Yusuke yelled after her. She didn’t turn around she just kept on walking.
