ch. 3

Yusuke stood alone in the alleyway thinking about what he had just seen. Was that a relationship or connection, he thought. Yusuke could not believe it; Hiei had never done that to anyone. He shook his head and started walking on home. Then he was confronted by someone. “I hope you didn’t think what it looked like. She was going to slap me. I had no other choice. I wasn’t going to let go until I had my say. You came in and had to get the wrong idea.”

“Hiei, I’m sorry. It’s just that…just that…well, I saw her being forced off by you and I just wasn’t to see if she was going to be okay and all, but I didn’t mean to see what I saw. Please forgive me, Hiei. I know it’s hard for you but please just forgive me.”

Hiei looked up and down and then straight at Yusuke. “Sure,” he said and started walking off.

When Hiei got to Kurama’s house he sat on the tree by it. He saw Hinageshi come up to Kurama’s house, he knew that she was not welcome and was about to unsheathe his katana, but then Kurama opened the door. “Hinageshi…what are you doing here?”

“I came to talk to you. I must!” she yelled into his face.

Kurama nodded his head sympathetically and let her in. She smiled at that and nodded her head of appreciation. You’re too soft Kurama, too soft, Hiei thought. He jumped off the tree and enter Kurama’s house. He slowly walked to Kurama’s room, just to take a peek of what Hinageshi was doing to him. Then the door opened. “If you wish to join us Hiei, please do. I don’t like the idea of surprises.”

Hiei smiled at Kurama, he knew that his senses never got weak. Hiei walked in slowly and met up with Hinageshi. Hinageshi did not smile at the sight of Hiei. Instead she frowned. I bet she was hoping to get Kurama all alone, Hiei thought. Kurama and Hinageshi talked for a while until she started asking really personal questions. Hiei stood up, with his hand holding his katana, saying, “It’s none of your business. Get out of here!”

She looked and him and said, “Well, why are you so protective of that? There must be a secret that I need to know. Why don’t you get out of here? This is not your house.”

Hiei’s anger was heating up. Hinageshi was really pushing it. “Well, I should. But I have just one last thing to do before I leave.”

With that, he drew out his katana and slashed at her; that would’ve killed her but, Kurama had pulled her out. She was cut, but not so far that she would die. “Hiei, please don’t ever do that again to a ningen. As for you Hinageshi, I believe it has been a long day so I know you would like to leave now. I will see you both later.”

He took Hinageshi arm and let her out and closed the door. “Kurama, why didn’t you let me kill her? It would have settled your problems. Then I could get Maya to leave.”

“What’s going on Kurama? Why is Hiei talking about me leaving?” she asked.

Kurama sighed and shook his head. He headed off to sleep. Hiei started walking out and Maya stopped him by putting her hand on his shoulder. “Hiei, tell me everything he’s hiding from me. I know he likes to keep things to himself, but please just tell me.”

“I wouldn’t waste that time on a ningen, but I think you can help to the cause.” Hiei’s eyes sparkled maliciously and took her outside to talk.

Yusuke was sitting on his bed in his own house thinking about who he really liked. Hinageshi was really beautiful, smart, polite, and funny. She wasn’t forceful like Keiko but she could persuade someone easily without yelling at all. He didn’t have any more feelings for Sakura and Keiko. He knew that Hinageshi was truly paired for him. Then, he saw her walking down the road, like she was just hit a hundred times. He ran outside and yelled, “Hinageshi!”

She looked towards him and started running towards him. Right when she was so close she flung herself towards him. He saw that she was cut up and bleeding. She cried, “Oh Yusuke! I was being so rude, I was yelling the first time in 6 years. That caused me all these cuts. If Kurama hadn’t pulled me away from Hiei, then I would surely be dead now. I cannot go home; I don’t want my parents to see me like this. Please let me stay at your place.”

Yusuke nodded his head in seeing that she was in desperate need. He took her inside the house and bandaged her wounds then got out a mat and some blankets to let her sleep in. Then he went off to his own room and slept, but he could not fall asleep. Then he heard someone open his door and say, “Yusuke, are you awake. I’m sorry but I could not sleep outside. May I sleep here with you?” Yusuke opened the light so he could she her and nodded his head. He got out of his bed and let her lie down. As soon as she did, she fell asleep. He sat by her, looking at her and closed the light.

Yusuke awoke the next morning and saw someone in his room. “What the…?” he said.

Then he remembered that she had come for help and Yusuke answered. He looked at her and how sound asleep she was. He was about to touch her hair, but then she woke up and said, “Good morning Yusuke. It seems that we’re late for school; I just won’t go today then. What about you?”

He was a bit startled at her decision but then seeing her eyes, he knew that she meant it. He smiled at her and walked towards the kitchen. He saw Sakura outside shouting. Yusuke quickly ran outside and heard Sakura shouting, “Hinageshi, where are you!? Hinageshi…where are you!?”

She stopped and collapsed on the ground crying. She was mumbling Hinageshi while crying and Yusuke ran to her. “Sakura! What’s wrong!? Sakura, speak to me! If you’re looking for Hinageshi, she’s in my house. Come with me,” he said as he pulled her from the ground.

Yusuke led her into his house and saw Hinageshi sipping tea. Sakura saw Hinageshi and jumped onto her. “Oh Hinageshi, I was so worried. Your parents didn’t come home and neither did you. I was so afraid. Your parents came home in the morning, but I told them that you headed off to school early so you wouldn’t be in trouble,” she said but then she saw the scars, “What’s this Hinageshi? What happened?”

Sakura’s eyes opened wide as she saw more and more bandages on the scars. Then she burst out crying. Hinageshi patted her and said, “It’s no reason to cry. I think you may have cried enough. Today we’re just going to stay home and no harm will come to us. I think I need to owe you an apology about last night. I’ll tell you everything.” Yusuke was thunderstruck with that last statement…everything, he thought, shoot.
