Emma Deason, parents unknown, from London, died 1867 aged 26. Write to , who has a page called DEASON Our John Deason lived in the Bendigo area including Moliagul, Victoria; Scilly Iles, Cornwall, England pre 1855. Rick Smith is also looking for information on the "Welcome Stranger" gold nugget which was discovered by John Deason and his friend Richard Oates, on the 5th February 1869. The 66-kg 'Welcome Stranger', then the world's largest-known gold nugget, was taken to Dunolly where it had to be broken on an anvil (located in the Goldfields Historical and Arts Museum) before it could fit on the bank's scales. It was worth 10 000 pounds at the time ($3-4 million in today's money). Deason returned to Moliagul and his descendants are still in the area. Oates went back to Cornwall for a while but returned to live out his life at Dunolly.
