Q:
What is F-16 Multirole Fighter?
A:
F-16 Multirole Fighter is the newest combat jet
simulation in the Lockheed Martin Fighter Series.
Based on the U.S. Air Force's F-16 multi-role /
multi-mission fighter, F-16 Multirole Fighter will
strike N. America stores in September 1998.
Q:
What makes F-16 Multirole Fighter different from the
other F-16 simulations?
A:
Unlike other F-16 simulations that require the player
to read a 300-page manual or memorize complicated
controls before getting into the action, F-16
Multirole Fighter has intuitive flight controls that
allow for immediate game play. Our F-16 Multirole
Fighter programmers have integrated this feature into
the game without sacrificing the authenticity of the
simulation--you'll still experience a flight model
that responds to conditions and the environment just
like the real F-16.
Q:
If the flight model and avionics are authentic, does
that mean it takes a long time to learn how to play?
No.
F-16 Multirole Fighter is designed to be fun and easy
to learn, with challenging missions for both novice
and advanced players.
Q:
Does F-16 Multirole Fighter support 3Dfx?
A:
Yes, F-16 Multirole Fighter supports 3Dfx, however
3Dfx is not required. The increasing number of 3Dfx
card users will allow more and more people to take
advantage of this feature. 3Dfx support used in
conjunction with NovaLogic's highly acclaimed graphics
provide an amazing look and feel to the simulation
without sacrificing frame rate.
Q:
How good are the graphics, and how much do they affect
the speed of game play?
A:
F-16 Multirole Fighter can be played in up to 1024 x
768 resolution (with Voodoo 2) while still maintaining
fast frame rates. Other games boast high resolution,
but in reality, the game play is very choppy. Not so
with F-16 Multirole Fighter. It's smooth, even in
multi-play mode with over 120 other pilots.
Q:
How authentic is the aircraft's response to the
environment?
A:
NovaLogic has worked closely with Lockheed Martin in
the development of F-16 Multirole Fighter to deliver
an authentic flight model that responds to the
environment according to real-world physics.
Incorporated into the flight model are factors such as
air pressure and engine efficiency based on altitude,
fuel flow, and dynamic mass. John Fergione, Lockheed
Martin F-16 Test Pilot and Project Pilot for the
Advanced Fighter Technology Integration Program, has
been instrumental in the development of F-16 Multirole
Fighter which means everything from the flight model
and avionics to the layout of the cockpit has been
developed and refined per Lockheed
specifications.
Q:
Will there be an interactive cockpit?
A:
Yes. F-16 Multirole Fighter features a 3D interactive
virtual cockpit. Now flight controls can be accessed
and operated, as opposed to most consumer flight
simulations which show only traditional static bitmap
cockpits. The displays accurately reflect the current
conditions of the aircraft and can be viewed at any
time while flying the aircraft.
Q:
What is IBS?
A:
IBS—Integrated Battle Space™—is NovaLogic's
revolutionary online gaming environment on NovaWorld
where you can compete with over 120 other human pilots
flying F-16 Multirole Fighters, MiG-29 Fulcrums and
F-22 Raptors, all in the same online arena. This adds
an exciting challenge to your gaming experience, and
also allows you to experience the strategic advantages
each aircraft has over the others in a true combat
situation. And because IBS is server-based, the number
of pilots in any given arena will not affect the speed
of game play.
Q:
What can you do with the Mission Design Tool?
A:
F-16 Multirole Fighter's Mission Design Tool enables
you to create your own custom battles. You can build
new structures and choose where to place them, plus
determine which enemies you'll fight and what weapons
they'll have.
Q:
Where do the campaigns take place?
A: In
F-16 Multirole Fighter campaigns, you'll be sent on
missions to restore order and preserve stability in
areas around the world, including Chile, Sierra Leone,
Burma and the Middle East. You'll encounter
challenging scenarios that will need to be resolved
under all types of environmental conditions.
Q:
What are the primary differences between the F-16
Multirole Fighter and the MiG-29 Fulcrum?
A:
The F-16 is primarily a ground attack fighter, but the
aircraft also has an air attack ability. This
versatility allows the plane to be used in missions
that range from bombing to air-to-air combat. The
MiG-29 is bigger and heavier than the F-16, and has
more powerful engines. The MiG-29 is primarily an air
attack fighter, and excels at intercepting enemy
aircraft and shooting them down.
The
F-16 is very maneuverable at high speeds, while the
MiG-29 is more maneuverable at slower speeds. As the
two planes pass each other, the F-16 has the advantage
because it can turn quickly to get on its opponent's
tail. When the dogfight slows, it is possible for the
MiG-29 to out-maneuver the F-16 and gain an advantage.
In
F-16 Multirole Fighter, missions involve Combat Air
Patrols, Air Intercept Missions, bombing, SAM hunting
and Close Air Support. MiG-29 Fulcrum gameplay
consists primarily of Offensive Counter Air, Defensive
Counter Air and Air Intercept missions.
Both
the F-16 Multirole Fighter and MiG-29 Fulcrum are
considered aggressive air-superiority fighters, each
being the other's close rival in air combat. Using the
competitive advantages unique to each aircraft is the
key to claiming victory in a combat scenario between
the two aircraft.
The ultimate test of these competitive advantages is
within NovaWorld's Integrated Battle Space, where you
can fly F-16 Multirole Fighters, MiG-29 Fulcrums and
F-22 Raptors with over 120 human opponents, all in one
online arena.
Q.
What do you mean by "6 degrees of freedom?"
A.
The "6 Degrees of Freedom" refers to 1 of 3
different camera modes you can have in the game. 6
degrees of freedom refers to the fact that the chase
(or follow) camera can move along the x, y, z axis
-AND- in the yaw, pitch, and roll directions as well.
What this means is that we've got a camera that is
like a stunt man who will follow you into loops, when
you turn upside down, or enter/exit any complex
maneuver. This camera allows you to get amazing views
never before seen in any flight combat simulation
before. It is also available in MiG 29 Fulcrum as
well.
