Miguel Guhlin, an instructional technologist, has a bachelor's degree in English and a Master's Degree in Bicultural/Bilingual Studies; he is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership with an instructional focus. He grew committed to using information problem-solving approaches such as the Big6 and FLIP IT! as a way to help teachers facilitate students use of technology in problem-based learning simulations, such as webquests.

. His two favorite quotes, quotes that he has used since beginning his career in education in 1990, are "Hardware without software is just junk, but software without teaching is just noise" and "Ask not what computers can do with students, but rather, what students can do with computers."
