WSB-TV relents, will show game live
from Atlanta Journal-Constitution - 29 June 02

Inundated by e-mail and telephone calls from angry soccer fans, WSB-TV changed course today and decided to show the World Cup finals live Sunday morning.

The telecast begins at 6:30 a.m. and the game at 7 a.m.

WSB, an affiliate of ABC, had chosen to carry only the taped replay of Brazil versus Germany provided by the network at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. It intended to stick with local programming, primarily news.

But after much of the soccer community mobilized and vented on WSB, it elected to air the live version, which is also available on the Spanish-language Univision.

"We're here to serve our viewers," said Greg Stone, WSB's vice president and general manager. "They have spoken and we have listened. We're thrilled with the support and interest in this event and happy to rearrange our programming to carry it live."

from Atlanta Journal-Constitution - 28 June 02

All six Clark Atlanta home football games will be broadcast live this season by AT&T Broadband TV 33.

Also, 14 weekly 30-minute highlight shows will air, starting Aug. 26. The Panthers, who were 1-10 last season and averaged 2,620 fans for home games, open the season at home Aug. 31 against two-time defending SIAC champion Tuskegee.

"This will be great exposure for us locally," first-year CAU coach Tracy Ham said. "We want to bring in local kids, and this is a good way of attracting them."

Daljit Dhaliwal
CNN International hires the Britain's Dhaliwal
from Atlanta Journal-Constitution - 15 June 02

British TV journalist Daljit Dhaliwal -- who has appeared on U.S. public broadcasting stations and once was included People magazine's list of "50 Most Beautiful People" -- is the latest anchor hire for the international version of CNN.

Dhaliwal has worked for BBC and was an occasional anchor on Britain's national Channel 4 News. But the British-born and London-based journalist says she is best known in the United States where more than 100 stations aired a show she anchored: ITN's "World News for Public Television." The program ended in December, but it had built up a following of its own.

Fans included David Letterman, who twice had Dhaliwal as a guest on his late-night show. Dhaliwal says she will move to Atlanta this summer where she will anchor CNN International's "World News" program. In the fall she is slated to help anchor new programs airing in prime time in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
