  • Student Web Page Evaluation Form

  • This is a great evaluation tool that I found for 9-12 grades. This is something students can use each time they visit a website for any project or paper. It's specifically made for high school students so the ability is very appropriate for my target group. It asks all the questions that someone would need to know about the website. These include title, URL, where it was found, home button??, who sponsors it, is it a source you can trust, quality....etc. There are 12 questions all together. The total evaluation asks these main questions--How do websites measure up against each other???, Are they as good as they appear or are they better??, How can we tell the good from the not so good? It's a great evaluation tool for websites overall.

PE Central  This listserv is more of a mailing list. You go to PE central and sign up by giving them your e-maill addres. Basically they send you out a newsletter once or twice a month. You don't have disussions with other people in the field, but they send you announcements concerning PE and Health, job openings, new ideas and lesson plans. They also send you information on where to buy good equipment for cheap prices. They send you lots of valuable information.
Sportsmedia  This is the first European Physical Education listserv. Subjects include practical problems concerning PE/Fitness/Health/Nutrition and sports tips/advice, job opportunities concerning PE and sports, announcing events concerning PE and sports (no commercial announcements, educational or research endeavours involving PE educators and coaches, contact members, and social interaction with colleagues worldwide. To subscribe you scroll to the bottom and it tells you to fill in your e-mail address. You'll receive a newsletter and be able to take part in the discussion.

Search Tools
Food Guide Pyramid  This site is a great tool for students, parents, and teachers. This is a great site for my nutrition unit when we discuss the food guide pyramid and recommended dietary allowances. It shows the food pyramid and each food group it contains.  It explains what foods are in each group and the number of servings you should eat a day. It also tells you how much of the foods constitutes one serving. Then it tells you foods to eat in each food group which are lower in fat and healthier for you overall. There are also links to other sites. It's a valuable tool.
The Eating Disorder Site  This is also a great tool for students, parents, and teachers. I would use this site for when we discuss eating disorders. It tells the behavioral signs, physiological signs, attitude shifts, treatment/management, and diagnostic criteria for people suffering with anorexia nervosa. I would also use this site as a resource for the students to use for their project on eating disorders.
Food and Fitness  This site is a great tool for students, parents, and teachers. I would use this site as part of my nutrition unit. The students can use this as a resource for their project. The site gives valuable information on dieting--which diets aren't safe and the correct way to diet, nutrition basics, for example: caffeine, hunger and malnutrition, vitamins and minerals, exercise, sports, problems with food and exercise, and recipes.
