-Another SNES game to the N64, Star Fox 64 presents a great flight shooter through different planets. Out of the 8 megabyte cartridge, 3 megs were strictly sound, due to the fact that all 23 characters have voices or speak. Star Fox 64 is a really fun game, and a game you should probably have if you have a N64. Gameplay: A+ -There are three different crafts: sub, tank, and arwing. But for most of the levels, you'll use an Arwing. The Arwing has bombs, a chargable blaster, and boosters and brakes. The levels you fly in are uniquely designed and quite good. There is usually a boss at the end of each level which you must try to blast away. If you meet certain conditions or goals, you can branch off and go to a harder course, which is neat. The Star Fox team will talk to you and give you hints along the way, along with Slippy's useless comments and extremely annoying voice. The tank is great, with the ability to hover. The sub is nicely designed and has infinite bombs. The final boss is awesome and even more awesome if you beat the game the hard way. The multiplayer is o.k., and is really funny when you earn the ground trooper v.s. the arwing. Graphics: B -A lot of polygonial shapes and enemies, with little detail. Some of the levels are good, while others are bad. The bonus branch in the asteroid field is really good and so is the final boss. Sound: A+ -It has really great themes and sound effects. Like I said, more than a 3rd of the cartrigde is dedicated to sound. Most of the characters have good voices except one special one that I don't like to mention. (It starts with a S and ends with a Lippy.) Challenge: A -You can either be a baby and go down the easy path, or be a man by going down the hard path. It's the branching system that makes this game unique. The boss fights are pretty hard also. Replay: B- -The multiplayer is fun when you have 4 players, but will get boring soon. The 1-player you'll probably only play until you've seen all the courses, both endings, and all the mission accomplished goals. Overall: B+ Grade: 89% "A great game with great gameplay." |
