DREW'S DELIBERATIONS

I can’t really say that I feel like we visited the Netherlands as we really only spent any considerable time in Amsterdam. This is one city that lives up to all of its stereotypes. Bicycles and canals are abundant, as is interesting architecture. “Coffee shops that are not interested in coffee at all are quite prevalent, especially near the famous red light district. We spent our time visiting museums, walking the streets and enjoying the ambiance. Some wonderful Dutch friends that we met trekking in Nepal showed us around town one day mainly focusing on apple pie and ice cream shops. It was a great day marred only by the fact that Patricia got pick pocketed on the tram. She did get her wallet back with all its contents a few days later. They also tried to get me but I felt the slime ball touching my hip pack. The red light district is otherworldly with women in windows “for sale”. When we walked by it was more of a tourist attraction but I assume that the feel of the place changes later at night. The fabulous Kuekenhoff gardens lured us out of Amsterdam for a day trip. These huge gardens are mosaics of colors that are hard to comprehend even as you are among them. We finished up in the Netherlands with a night in Mastrich on our way to Germany. We spent a pleasant evening there made more interesting by the fact that our room was on a ship.
