The Michigan Hawking Club is a non-political, non-profit organization whose purpose is the preservation of the sport of falconry and the conservation of birds of prey. The purpose of the MHC is to provide communication among and to disseminate relevant information to club members; to promote scientific study of the raptorial species, the care, welfare, and training; to promote conservation of the birds of prey and an appreciation of their value in nature and in wildlife conservation programs; to urge recognition of falconry as a legal field sport; and to establish traditions which will aid, perpetuate, and further the welfare of falconry, and the raptors it employs.
I'm still suprised by how many people are suprised that our birds fly free. That is the whole thrill of this sport. I thought this picture is awsome because it shows THERE ARE NO STRINGS ATTACHED. This is Cub member Dan Smith (another photo) and his male redtail hawk 'Scout' flying in January 2004.
I would like to ask the club members that have action shots or other photos that convey the thrill of falconry to send them to me. I will change them on here occassionally.
The Michigan Hawking Club sponsors many public events in the fall. Check out the calendar page for event details. WE NEED CLUB MEMBERS TO VOLUTEER FOR THESE EVENTS. The contact name is for co-ordinating the volunteers is listed with the detials.
